[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill with the illness from which he eventually passed away, Bilal came to him to call the prayer. After two times, he said, "O Bilal, you have informed, so whoever wishes, let them pray, and whoever wishes, let them abstain." Bilal went back to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by my father and mother, who will lead the people in prayer?" He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." When Abu Bakr led the people in prayer, the curtain was lifted off the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . We looked at him, and he looked like a white sheet with a worn-out garment on it. Abu Bakr went back and thought that he wanted to go out for prayer, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ signaled to Abu Bakr to stand up and lead the prayer. Abu Bakr led the people in prayer, and we did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ thereafter.
