ahmad:1185 – Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Saʿīd > Qatādah > al-Shaʿbī > Sharāḥah al-Hamdāniyyah Atat ʿAlī > Innī Zanayt

I have committed zina. Perhaps you are jealous, or perhaps you dreamt something, or perhaps you were forced? So he flogged her on Thursday and stoned her on Friday, and he said: I flogged her in accordance with the book of Allah and I stoned her in accordance with the sunnah of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ.  

أحمد:١١٨٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَنَّ شَرَاحَةَ الْهَمْدَانِيَّةَ أَتَتْ عَلِيًّا فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ فَقَالَ

لَعَلَّكِ غَيْرَى لَعَلَّكِ رَأَيْتِ فِي مَنَامِكِ لَعَلَّكِ اسْتُكْرِهْتِ وَكُلٌّ ذَلِكَ تَقُولُ لَافَجَلَدَهَا يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ وَرَجَمَهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَقَالَ جَلَدْتُهَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَرَجَمْتُهَا بِسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ

Perhaps you were forced? Perhaps your husband came to you? Perhaps...? She said: No. When she gave birth, he slogged her then he stoned her. It was said to him: Why did you flog her then stone her? He said: I flogged her in accordance with the Book of Allah and I stoned her in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.  

أحمد:١٣١٧ – حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا قَالَ

لِشَرَاحَةَ لَعَلَّكِ اسْتُكْرِهْتِ لَعَلَّ زَوْجَكِ أَتَاكِ لَعَلَّكِ قَالَتْ لا فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْ جَلَدَهَا ثُمَّ رَجَمَهَا فَقِيلَ لَهُ لِمَ جَلَدْتَهَا ثُمَّ رَجَمْتَهَا؟ قَالَ جَلَدْتُهَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَرَجَمْتُهَا بِسُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

A married adulterer was brought to ‘Ali. He gave him one hundred lashes on Thursday and he stoned him on Friday. It was said to him: You gave him two hadd punishments? He said: I flogged him in accordance with the Book of Allah and I stoned him in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.  

أحمد:٩٤١ – حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ

أُتِيَ عَلِيٌّ بِزَانٍ مُحْصَنٍ فَجَلَدَهُ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ مِائَةً ثُمَّ رَجَمَهُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ جَمَعْتَ عَلَيْهِ حَدَّيْنِ؟ فَقَالَ جَلَدْتُهُ بِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَرَجَمْتُهُ بِسُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

It was said to him: You flogged her then you stoned her? He said: l flogged her in accordance with the Book of Allah and I stoned her in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
