ahmad-zuhd:247ʿAbdullāh > Bī > ʿAffān > Thābit > Hilāl b. Khabbāb > ʿIkrimah > Ibn ʿAbbās

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ went to Uhud and said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it does not please me for Uhud to be turned into gold, which I would spend in the path of Allah, except for two dinars. I would leave them as a debt if I died on that day." He died and did not leave behind any dinars or dirhams, nor a slave, nor a child. He left his shield pledged as collateral with a Jew for thirty saa' of barley.  

الزهد لأحمد:٢٤٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ حَدَّثَنَا هِلَالُ بْنُ خَبَّابٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ الْتَفَتَ إِلَى أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ مَا [41] يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ أُحُدًا يُحَوَّلُ لِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ذَهَبًا؛ أُنْفِقُهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمُوتُ يَوْمَ أَمُوتُ أَدَعُ مِنْهُ دِينَارَيْنِ؛ إِلَّا دِينَارَيْنِ أُعِدُّهُمَا لِدَيْنٍ إِنْ كَانَ» قَالَ فَمَاتَ وَمَا تَرَكَ دِينَارًا وَلَا دِرْهَمًا وَلَا عَبْدًا وَلَا وَلِيدَةً وَتَرَكَ دِرْعَهُ مَرْهُونَةً عِنْدَ يَهُودِيٍّ؛ عَلَى ثَلَاثِينَ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ

[Machine] The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم turned towards Uhud and said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, I do not feel happy that Uhud is turned into gold for the family of Muhammad while I live, except that I spend it in the way of Allah, or I die on the day I die leaving neither a dinar nor a dirham, nor a slave, nor a female slave, but I leave behind me two dinars dedicated to repaying a debt if there is any. And if he dies and he leaves neither dinar nor dirham, nor a servant, nor a female servant, and leaves his shield on loan from a Jew for 30 sa of barley, let it be given back to him."

He then passed away and left behind no dinar, dirham, servant, or child, but he left his armor as a pledge with a Jew for thirty sa' of barley.

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ turned towards Uhud and said, "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! It does not please me that Uhud be turned into gold for the family of Muhammad, and then I die on the day I die and leave behind from it two dinars, except that I would pay them as a debt if I owed anything."
