[Machine] A man came to Al-Hasan and asked him about certain matters, and Al-Hasan answered him. The man said, "O Abu Sa'id, the scholars say such and such." Al-Hasan replied, "Have you seen a true scholar with your own eyes? A true scholar is one who is ascetic in this world, desirous of the Hereafter, aware of his own sins, and consistently devoted to the worship of his Lord."

[Machine] I once said to Al-Hasan regarding something he said, "O Abu Sa'id, this is not how jurists speak." He replied, "Woe onto you! Haven't you seen that a jurist is merely an ascetic in this world, desiring the hereafter, knowledgeable in religious affairs, and continuously dedicated to worshipping his Lord?"

[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan, and a man asked him, saying: "I asked a jurist, and he said, 'Have you ever seen a jurist? May you be fatherless! A true jurist is one who is abstinent from worldly matters, perceptive of his own sins, and consistent in worshiping his Lord.'"
