tirmidhi:1298 – Aḥmad b. ʿAbdah al-Ḍabbī > ʿAbd

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Ours is not a bad example: The one who takes back his gift is like the dog who takes back his vomit." [He said:] On this topic, there is the narration from Ibn 'Umar from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "It is not lawful for anyone that has given a gift to take it back, except for a father who gives something to his son."  

الترمذي:١٢٩٨ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الضَّبِّيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَيْسَ لَنَا مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ الْعَائِدُ فِي هِبَتِهِ كَالْكَلْبِ يَعُودُ فِي قَيْئِهِ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لاَ يَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُعْطِيَ عَطِيَّةً فَيَرْجِعَ فِيهَا إِلاَّ الْوَالِدَ فِيمَا يُعْطِي وَلَدَهُ

The Prophet ﷺ said: It is not lawful for a man to make a donation or give a gift and then take it back, except a father regarding what he gives his child. One who gives a gift and then takes it back is like a dog which eats and vomits when it is full, then returns to its vomit.  

أبو داود:٣٥٣٩ – حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَحِلُّ لِرَجُلٍ أَنْ يُعْطِيَ عَطِيَّةً أَوْ يَهَبَ هِبَةً فَيَرْجِعَ فِيهَا إِلاَّ الْوَالِدَ فِيمَا يُعْطِي وَلَدَهُ وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعْطِي الْعَطِيَّةَ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ فِيهَا كَمَثَلِ الْكَلْبِ يَأْكُلُ فَإِذَا شَبِعَ قَاءَ ثُمَّ عَادَ فِي قَيْئِهِ

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ فَإِنِّي لَا أَعْلَمُ خِلَافًا فِي عَدَالَةِ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ إِنَّمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِي سَمَاعِ أَبِيهِ مِنْ جَدِّهِ صحيح
