[Machine] A man came and greeted the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." He replied, "And upon you peace and the mercy of Allah." Then another man came and greeted him, saying, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah." He replied, "And upon you peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings." Then another man came and greeted him, saying, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah, and His blessings." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , replied to him, "And upon you." The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so and so-and-so came to you, and you greeted them better than you greeted me?" The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "You have not left anything, or I have not left anything." Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says, "And if you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner]." So I have returned the greeting to you.  

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ قَالَ «وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ» ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَعَلَيْكَ» فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَتَاكَ فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ فَحَيَيْتَهُمَا بِأَفْضَلَ مِمَّا حَيَّيْتَنِي؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّكَ لَنْ أَوْ لَمْ تَدَعْ شَيْئًا قَالَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُمْ بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوا بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا أَوْ رُدُّوهَا} فَرَدَدْتُ عَلَيْكَ التَّحِيَّةَ
