أَبُو عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ

tabarani:5064 – ʿAbdullāh b. Aḥmad from my father > Yaʿlá b. ʿUbayd > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > al-Ḥārith b. Shubayl > Abū ʿAmr al-Shaybānī > Zayd b. Arqam

[Machine] We were in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , when we were in prayer, if one of us wanted something, he would speak to him and continue walking until this verse was revealed, "And stand before Allah, devoutly obedient" (Quran 2:238), so we were commanded to remain silent.  

الطبراني:٥٠٦٤ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا أَبِي ثنا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ شُبَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ

كُنَّا فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا كُنَّا فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَأَرَادَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا حَاجَةً كَلَّمَهُ وَسَارَهُ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} فَأُمِرْنَا بِالسُّكُوتِ

"We used to speak to each other during the prayer, saying whatever was necessary, at the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, until this verse was revealed: Guard strictly (five obligatory) As-Salawat (the prayers) especially the middle Salah (i.e. the best prayer- 'Asr). And stand before Allah with obedience (and do not speak to others during the Salah (prayers)), so we were commanded to be silent."

كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يُكَلِّمُ صَاحِبَهُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ بِالْحَاجَةِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ { حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلاَةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ } فَأُمِرْنَا بِالسُّكُوتِ

[Machine] We used to talk during prayer in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of us would speak to his companion about a need between them until the verse was revealed: "Guard the prayers and the middle prayer and stand before Allah in devotion." Then we were commanded to be silent.
