عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَارِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prohibited us from facing the qibla (direction of prayer) while relieving oneself or urinating. However, when we arrived in Sham (Syria), we found their latrines facing the qibla, so we would divert our direction and seek forgiveness from Allah."  

الطبراني:٣٩٢١حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْمُقْرِئُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَوْنٍ الْخَرَّازُ قَالُوا ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَارِيَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ

«نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةَ بِغَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا الشَّامَ وَجَدْنَا مَرَافِقَهُمْ مَرَاحِيضَ قَدِ اسْتُقْبِلَ بِهَا الْقِبْلَةَ فَنَحْنُ نَنْحَرِفُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ ﷻ»

That he (the Holy Prophet, sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said:"When you go to the privy, neither turn your face nor your back towards the qiblah at the time of excretion or urination, but turn towards the east or the west. (Abu Ayyub said): When we came to Syria, we found that the toilets already built there were facing the qiblah, We turned our faces away from them and begged pardon of Allaah.  

أبو داود:٩حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ رِوَايَةً قَالَ

إِذَا أَتَيْتُمُ الْغَائِطَ فَلاَ تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الْقِبْلَةَ بِغَائِطٍ وَلاَ بَوْلٍ وَلَكِنْ شَرِّقُوا أَوْ غَرِّبُوا فَقَدِمْنَا الشَّامَ فَوَجَدْنَا مَرَاحِيضَ قَدْ بُنِيَتْ قِبَلَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَكُنَّا نَنْحَرِفُ عَنْهَا وَنَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ
