I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, send peace and blessings upon me.' He asked, 'What is this on your hand?' I replied, 'I have applied collyrium to my eyes.' Then I said, 'I purified myself and then adorned myself.' He asked, 'Do you have a wife?' I replied, 'No.' He asked, 'Do you have a mistress?' I replied, 'No.' He said, 'Then go and wash it off, and wash it three times.'"
