أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ الْهُذَلِيُّ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ
[Machine] "I saw the Prophet ﷺ at the Mosque of Al-Khayf, and his companions said to me, 'O Wathilah, stay away from the face of the Prophet ﷺ .' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Leave him, for he came to ask me something.' So, I came near him and said, 'May both my parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! Advise us about something that we can rely on after you.' He said, 'Have self-control.' I asked, 'How can I achieve that?' He replied, 'Leave what makes you doubtful for what does not make you doubtful. And if you are given a religious verdict by those affected by desires, then it is better for you to understand and beware.' I asked, 'How can I attain that knowledge?' He said, 'Place your hand on your chest. Verily, the heart becomes calm with what is lawful and it becomes disturbed with what is unlawful. And verily, the cautious Muslim avoids small doubtful matters fearing that they may lead him to what is forbidden.' I asked, 'What is fanaticism, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Helping one's people in wrongdoing.' I asked, 'Who is eager?' He said, 'The one who seeks profit in an unlawful way.' I asked, 'Who is cautious?' He said, 'The one who abstains from doubtful matters.' I asked, 'Who is a believer?' He said, 'The one whom people trust with their wealth and lives.' I asked, 'Who is a Muslim?' He said, 'The one from whose tongue and hands people are safe.' I asked, 'Which jihad is best?' He said, 'The word of justice in front of an oppressive ruler.'"
