[AI] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, told me that Abdullah bin Zubair said about a sale or a gift that Aisha gave him, "By Allah, Aisha will either stop or I will stone her." She asked, "Is this what he said?" They replied, "Yes." She said, "He has made a vow to Allah that he will never speak to Ibn Zubair again." When Ibn Zubair's migration became lengthy, Ibn Musawir bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Aswad bin Abd Yaghooth, both of whom were from the Banu Zuhrah tribe, spoke to him. They said, "We swear by Allah, we will not enter upon Aisha unless you allow us." Aisha told them to enter. They asked, "May we all enter, O Mother of the Believers?" She replied, "Yes, all of you enter and make sure Aisha doesn't know that Ibn Zubair is with you." When they entered, Ibn Zubair entered the curtain and embraced Aisha. He trembled and she tried to console him. Ibn Musawir bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Aswad also tried to console Aisha and begged her, "For the sake of Allah, speak to him and accept his apology." She accepted his apology. They told her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden migration, as she knew, and said, "It is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three nights." When they persisted with Aisha, reminding and urging her, she trembled, reminded them, and wept, saying, "I made a vow, and a vow is a serious matter." They did not stop until she spoke to Ibn Zubair. Then she freed forty slaves as part of her vow. After she had freed the forty slaves, she would mention her vow and weep until her tears wet her veil.

adab:397'Awf ibn al-Harith ibn at-Tufayl, the nephew of 'A'isha, reported that 'A'isha was told that 'Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr had said about something which 'A'isha was selling - or giving away as a gift, "By Allah, if she does not stop, I will debar her from disposing of her property!" She asked, "Is that truly so?" "Yes," they replied. 'A'isha exclaimed, "I vow to Allah that I will never again speak a single word to Ibn az-Zubayr!" When this desertion lasted long, 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair sought intercession from the Mahajireen with her, but she said:

"By Allah I will not ever accept the intercession of anyone for him, and I will not ever break my vow that I have vowed." When it went on long for Ibn Az-Zubair, he spoke to Al-Miswar bin Makhramah and 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin Yaghut and they were from Bani Zuhrah. So he said to them: "I beseech you in the Name of Allah that you enter me upon (the place of) 'Aishah because it is unlawful for her to vow to sever relations with me." So Al-Miswar and 'Abdur-Rahman approached with him under their upper garments until they sought her permission, saying: "As-salamu 'alaiki wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu! Shall we come in?" 'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) said: "Come in," They asked: "All of us, o mother of the believers?" She said: "Yes all of you," and she did know that Ibn Az-Zubair was with them. So, when they entered, Ibn Az-Zubair entered the screened place and hugged 'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) and began beseeching her and wept. And Al-Miswar and 'Abdur-Rahman began to plead her to but speak to him and to accept from him, also saying to her: "You know that the Messenger Allah ﷺ forbade what you know of abandonment and that it is not permissible for a man to abandon his brother over three nights." He said: So when they did a great deal of reminding and urging, she began remind them and weep, saying: "I have made a vow which is a matter of very serious nature." They persisted in their appeal till she spoke with 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair. Then she freed forty slaves as an expiation for breaking her vow. Later on she would remember, after freeing forty slaves, then she would weep so much that her veil would become wet with tears.

bukhari:6073Abū al-Yamān > Shuʿayb > al-Zuhrī

(the wife of the Prophet) that she was told that ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair (on hearing that she was selling or giving something as a gift) said, "By Allah, if ʿAisha does not give up this, I will declare her incompetent to dispose of her wealth." I said, "Did he (ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair) say so?" They (people) said, "Yes." ʿAisha said, "I vow to Allah that I will never speak to Ibn Az-Zubair." When this desertion lasted long, ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair sought intercession with her, but she said, "By Allah, I will not accept the intercession of anyone for him, and will not commit a sin by breaking my vow." When this state of affairs was prolonged on Ibn Az-Zubair (he felt it hard on him), he said to Al- Miswar bin Makhrama and ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin 'Abu Yaghuth, who were from the tribe of Bani Zahra, "I beseech you, by Allah, to let me enter upon ʿAisha, for it is unlawful for her to vow to cut the relation with me." So Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur-Rahman, wrapping their sheets around themselves, asked ʿAisha's permission saying, "Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be upon you! Shall we come in?" ʿAisha said, "Come in." They said, "All of us?" She said, "Yes, come in all of you," not knowing that Ibn Az- Zubair was also with them. So when they entered, Ibn Az-Zubair entered the screened place and got hold of ʿAisha and started requesting her to excuse him, and wept. Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur Rahman also started requesting her to speak to him and to accept his repentance. They said (to her), "The Prophet ﷺ forbade what you know of deserting (not speaking to your Muslim Brethren), for it is unlawful for any Muslim not to talk to his brother for more than three nights (days)." So when they increased their reminding her (of the superiority of having good relation with Kith and kin, and of excusing others' sins), and brought her down to a critical situation, she started reminding them, and wept, saying, "I have made a vow, and (the question of) vow is a difficult one." They (Al-Miswar and ʿAbdur-Rahman) persisted in their appeal till she spoke with ʿAbdullah bin Az- Zubair and she manumitted forty slaves as an expiation for her vow. Later on, whenever she remembered her vow, she used to weep so much that her veil used to become wet with her tears.

Hadith Jibril on Iman, Islam, and Ihsan

muslim:8a[Chain 1] Abū Khaythamah Zuhayr b. Ḥarb > Wakīʿ > Kahmas > ʿAbdullāh b. Buraydah > Yaḥyá b. Yaʿmar [Chain 2] ʿUbaydullāh b. Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī And Hadhā Ḥadīthuh from my father > Kahmas > Ibn Buraydah > Yaḥyá b. Yaʿmar

the first man who discussed Qadar (Divine Decree) in Baṣrah was Maʿbad al-Juhanī. I along with Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Ḥimyarī set out for pilgrimage or for ʿUmrah and said: Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we shall ask him about what is talked about Qadar. Accidentally we came across ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, while he was entering the mosque. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us ˹stood˺ on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I, therefore, said: Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, there have appeared some people in our land who recite the Quran and pursue knowledge. And then after talking about their affairs, added: They claim that there is no such thing as Qadar and events are not predestined. He said: When you happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way responsible for my ˹belief˺. ʿAbdullāh b ʿUmar swore by Allah: If any one of them had with him gold equal to the bulk of ˹the mountain˺ Uḥud and spent it ˹for the sake of Allah˺, Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in the Qadar.

He further said: My father, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, told me: One day we were sitting in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes. His hair was extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last, he sat with the Prophet ﷺ. He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs,

then said: Muhammad, inform me about Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Islam implies that: (1) you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and (2) you establish prayer, (3) pay Zakat, (4) observe the fast of Ramadan, and (5) perform pilgrimage to the (House) if you are solvent enough ˹to bear the expense of˺ the journey.” ˹The inquirer˺ said: You have told the truth. ˹ʿUmar˺ said: It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself verify the truth.

˹The inquirer˺ said: Inform me about Iman (faith). He replied: “That (1) you affirm your faith in Allah, (2) in His angels, (3) in His Books, (4) in His Apostles, (5) in the Day of Judgment, and (6) you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil.” ˹The inquirer˺ said: You have told the truth.

˹The inquirer˺ again said: Inform me about Iḥsān (excellence in deeds). He said: ”That (1) you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, (2) for though you don't see Him, He, verily, sees you.”

˹The inquirer˺ again said: Inform me about the Hour (of the Last Day). He remarked: ”One who is asked knows no more than the one who is inquiring.” ˹The inquirer˺ said: Tell me some of its indications. He said: ”That (1) the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master, that (2) you will find barefooted, destitute goat herders vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings.”

˹ʿUmar˺ said: Then ˹the inquirer˺ went on his way but I stayed with (the Prophet) for a long while. He then, said to me: "ʿUmar, do you know who this inquirer was?" I replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. He remarked: "He was Jibrīl (Angel Gabriel). He came to you in order to teach you in your religion."

I was near the House (i. e. Ka'bah) in a state between sleep and wakefulness when I heard someone say: He is the third among the two persons. Then he came to me and took me with him. Then a golden basin containing the water of Zamzam was brought to me and my heart was opened up to such and such (part). Qatada said: I asked him who was with me (i e. the narrator) and what he meant by such and such (part). He replied: (It means that it was opened) up to the lower part of his abdomen (Then the hadith continues): My heart was extracted and it was washed with the water of Zamzam and then it was restored in its original position, after which it was filled with faith and wisdom. I was then brought a white beast which is called al-Buraq, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach. I was mounted on it, and then we went forth till we reached the lowest heaven. Gabriel asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was again said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent for? He (Gabriel) said: Yes. He (the Prophet) said: Then (the gate) was opened for us (and it was said): Welcome unto him! His is a blessed arrival. Then we came to Adam (peace be upon him). And he (the narrator) narrated the whole account of the hadith. (The Holy Prophet) observed that he met Jesus in the second heaven, Yahya (peace be on both of them) in the third heaven, Yusuf in the third, Idris in the fourth, Harun in the fifth (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them). Then we travelled on till we reached the sixth heaven and came to Moses (peace be upon him) and I greeted him and he said: Welcome unto righteous brother and righteous prophet. And when I passed (by him) he wept, and a voice was heard saying: What makes thee weep? He said: My Lord, he is a young man whom Thou hast sent after me (as a prophet) and his followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers. Then we travelled on till we reached the seventh heaven and I came to Ibrahim. He (the narrator) narrat- ed in this hadith that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ told that he saw four rivers which flowed from (the root of the lote-tree of the farthest limits): two manifest rivers and two hidden rivers. I said: ' Gabriel! what are these rivers? He replied: The two hidden rivers are the rivers of Paradise, and as regards the two manifest ones, they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Bait-ul-Ma'mur was raised up to me. I said: O Gabriel! what is this? He replied: It is the Bait-ul-Ma'mur. Seventy thousand angels enter into it daily and, after they come out, they never return again. Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk, and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said: You did right. Allah will guide rightly through you your Ummah on the natural course. Then fifty prayers daily were made obligatory for me. And then he narrated the rest of the hadith to the end.

The House was burnt during the time of Yazid b. Muawiya when the people of Syria had fought (in Mecca). And it happened with it (the Ka'ba) what was (in store for it). Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) felt it (in the same state) until the people came in the season (of Hajj). (The idea behind was) that he wanted to exhort them or incite them (to war) against the people of Syria. When the people had arrived he said to them: O people, advise me about the Ka'ba. Should I demolish it and then build it from its very foundation, or should I repair whatever has been damaged of it? Ibn 'Abbas said: An idea has occurred to me according to which I think that you should only repair (the portion which has been) damaged, and leave the House (in that very state in which) people embraced Islam (and leave those very stones in the same state) when people embraced Islam, and over which Allah's Apostle ﷺ had raised it. Thereupon Ibn Zubair said: It the house of any one of you is burnt, he would not be contented until he had reconstructed it, then what about the House of your Lord (which is far more Important than your house)? I would seek good advice from my Lord thrice and then I would make up (my mind) about this affair. After seeking good advice thrice, he made up his mind to demolish it. The people apprehended that calamity might fall from heaven on those persons who would be first to climb (over the building for the purpose of demolishing it), till one (took up courage, and ascended the roof), and threw down one of its stones. When the people saw no calamity befalling him, they followed him, demolished it until it was razed to the ground. Then Ibn Zubair erected pillars and hung cartains on them (in order to provide facilities to the people for observing the time of its construction). And the walls were raised; and Ibn Zubair said: I heard 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) say that Allah's Apostle ﷺ had observed: If the people had Rot recently (abandoned) unbelief, find I had means enough to reconstruct it, which I had not, I would have definitely excompassed in it five cubits of area from Hijr. And I would also have constructed a door for the people to enter, and a door for their exit. I today have (the means to spend) and I entertain no fearfrom the side of people (that they would protest against this change). So he added five cubits of area from the side of Hatim to it that there appeared (the old) foundation (upon which Hadrat Ibrahim had built the Ka'ba). and the people saw that and it was upon this foundation that the wall was raised. The length of the Ka'ba was eighteen cubits. when addition was made to it (which was in its breadth), then naturally the length appears to be) small (as compared with its breadth). Then addition of ten cubits (of area) was made in its length (also). Two doors were also constructed, one of which (was meant) for entrance and the other one for exit. When Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) was killed, Hajjaj wrote to 'Abd al-Malik (b. Marwan) informing him about it, and telling him that Ibn Zubair (Allah be pleased with him) had built (the Ka'ba) on those very foundations (which were laid by Ibrahim) and which reliable persons among the Meccans had seen. 'Abd al-Malik wrote to him: We are not concerned with the censuring of Ibn Zubair in anything. Keep intact the addition made by him in the side of length, and whatever he has added frem the side of Hijr revert to (its previous) foundation, and wall up the door which he had opened. Thus Hajjaj at the command of Abd al-Malik) demolished it (that portion) and rebuilt it on (its previous) foundations.

abudawud:4695ʿUbaydullāh b. Muʿādh from my father > Kahmas > Ibn Buraydah > Yaḥyá b. Yaʿmar

The first to speak on Divine decree in al-Basrah was Maʿbad al Juhani. I and Humaid b. ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Himyari proceeded to perform Hajj or ʿUmrah. We said : would that we meet any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we could ask him about what they say with regard to divine decree. So Allah helped us to meet ʿAbd Allah b. ʿUmar who was entering the mosque. So I and my companion surrounded him, and I thought that my companion would entrust me the task of speaking to him. Then I said : Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman, there appeared on our side some people who recite the Qur'an and are engaged in the hair-splitting of knowledge. They conceive that there is no Divine decree and everything happens freely without predestination. He said : When you meet those people, tell them that I am free from them, and they are free from me. By Him by Whom swears ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar, if one of them has gold equivalent to Uhud and he spends it, Allah will not accept it from him until he believes in Divine decree. He then said : ‘Umar b. Khattab transmitted to me a tradition, saying : One day when we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a man with very white clothing and very black hair came up to us. No mark of travel was visible on him, and we did not recognize him. Sitting down beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, leaning his knees against his and placing his hands on his thighs, he said : tell me, Muhammad, about Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said : Islam means that you should testify that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle, that you should observe prayer, pay Zakat, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the house (i.e., Kaʿbah), If you have the means to go. He said : You have spoken the truth. We were surprised at his questioning him and then declaring that he spoke the truth. He said : Now tell me about faith. He replied : It means that you should believe in Allah, his angels, his Books, his Apostles and the last day, and that you should believe in the decreeing both of good and evil. He said : You have spoken the truth. He said : now tell me about doing good (ihsan). He replied: It means that you should worship Allah as though you are seeing him; if you are not seeing him, he is seeing you. He said: Now tell me about the hour. He replied : The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the one who is asking. He said : Then tell me about its signs. He replied : That a maidservant should beget her mistress, and that you should see barefooted, naked, poor men and shepherds exalting themselves in buildings. ‘Umar said : He then went away, and I waited for three days, then he said : Do you know who the questioner was, ʿUmar? I replied : Allah and his Apostle know best. He said : He was Gabriel who came to you to teach you your religion.

tirmidhi:2610Abū ʿAmmār al-Ḥusayn b. Ḥurayth al-Khuzāʿī > Wakīʿ > Kahmas b. al-Ḥasan > ʿAbdullāh b. Buraydah > Yaḥyá b. Yaʿmur

"The first person to speak about Al-Qadar was Ma'bad Al-Juhani." He said: "Humaid bin Abdur-Rahman Al-Himyari and I went out until we reached Al-Madinah, and we said: 'If we could only meet someone among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ so we could ask him about what those people have innovated." [He said:] "So we met him - meaning Abdullah bin 'Umar - while he was leaving the Masjid." [He said:] "My companion and I were on either side of him." [He said:] I thought my companion was going to leave the speaking to me so I said: "O Abu Abdur-Rahman! There is a group of people who recite the Qur'an and seek knowledge, and they claim there is no Al-Qadar, and that the affair is left to chance.' He said: "Whenever you meet those people, then tell them that I am not of them and they are not of me. By the One Whom Abdullah swears by! If one of them were to spend gold the like of Uhud (mountain) in charity, it would not be accepted from him until he believes in Al-Qadar; the good of it and the bad of it.'" He said: "Then he began to narrate, he said: "'Umar bin Al-Khattab said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah when a man came with extremely white garments, and extremely black hair. He had no appearance of traveling visible on him, yet none of us recognized him. He came until he reached the Prophet ﷺ. He put his knees up against his knees, and then said: "O Muhammad! What is Iman?' He said 'To believe in Allah, His Angels, His, Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgement, and Al-Qadar, the good of it and the bad of it.' He said: 'Then what is Islam?' He said: 'Testifying to La Ilaha Illallah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, establishing the Salat, giving the Zakat, performing Hajj to the House, and fasting (the month of) Ramadan.' He said: 'Then what is Ihsan?' He said 'That (is) you worship Allah as if you see Him, and although you do not see Him, He certainly sees you.' He said: 'For all of those he replied to him: 'You have told the truth.'" He said: "So we were amazed at him, he would ask, and then tell him that he is telling the truth. He said: 'Then when is the Hour?' He ﷺ said: 'The one being asked knows no more than the questioner.' He said: 'Then what are its signs?' He said: 'That the slave woman gives birth to her master, and that the naked, poor, and bare-footed shepherds rival each other in the height of the buildings.'" 'Umar said: 'Then the Prophet ﷺ met me three days after that and said: 'O 'Umar! Do you know who the questioner was? It was Jibril. He came to teach you about the matters of your religion.'"

[AI] We were sitting at the door of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud before the morning prayer. When he came out, we walked with him to the mosque. Abu Musa al-Ash'ari came to us and said, "Has Abu Abdur-Rahman come out to you?" We said, "No, not yet." So he sat with us until he came out. When he came out, we all stood up to go with him. Abu Musa said to him, "O Abu Abdur-Rahman, I have just seen something in the mosque that I rejected, but thanks to Allah, I saw only good." Abdullah ibn Mas'ud asked, "What is it?" Abu Musa replied, "If you live, you will see it." Then he said, "In the mosque, I saw some people sitting in circles waiting for prayer. In each circle, there was a man and in their hands were pebbles. He would say, 'Say Allahu Akbar (Takbir) a hundred times,' so they would say it a hundred times. Then he would say, 'Say La ilaha illallah (Tahlil) a hundred times,' so they would say it a hundred times. And he would say, 'Say Subhanallah (Tasbih) a hundred times,' so they would say it a hundred times." Abdullah ibn Mas'ud asked, "What did you say to them?" He replied, "I didn't say anything to them, waiting for your opinion or your order." Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said, "You should have ordered them to count their evil deeds and assured them that their good deeds would not be lost."

Then he proceeded, and we accompanied him until he came to one of those circles. He stood over them and said, "What is this I see you doing?" They said, "O Abu Abdur-Rahman, these are pebbles we are using to count the Takbir, Tahlil, and Tasbih." He said, "Count your bad deeds, and I assure you nothing will be lost from your good deeds. Woe to you, O nation of Muhammad! How quickly you have perished! These are the Companions of your Prophet ﷺ, abundant still. His garments have not worn out and his vessels are not broken. By the One in Whose Hand my soul is, you are either following a way more guided than the way of Muhammad ﷺ or you are opening a door of misguidance." They said, "By Allah, O Abu Abdur-Rahman, we only intended good." He said, "How many intend good but do not achieve it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that there would be people who recite the Quran, and it does not go past their throats. By Allah, I do not know, perhaps most of them are from you." Then he turned away from them. Amr ibn Salamah commented, "We saw most of those circles fighting against us on the day of Nahrawan with the Khawarij."

[AI] "So he narrated to me from the one who was in his presence to me, a hadith that he heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So I memorized it and wrote it down. He said, 'Indeed, I have made an oath upon you when you recited this parchment that you will bring it to me with the book.' He said, 'So I rode the parchment and raced it until it sweated, then I brought it to him with the book. And behold, in it, I was narrated from Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aas, that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Indeed, Allah dislikes obscenity and vulgar joking. By the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, the Hour will not be established until the trustworthy one is betrayed and the treacherous one is trusted, until obscenity and vulgar joking become widespread, until family ties are severed, and bad neighbors and evil companions arise." And by the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, the believer is like a piece of gold, its owner blows on it and it does not change or decrease. And by the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, the believer is like a bee, it eats what is good and produces what is good, and it falls without breaking or spoiling." He said, "And he said, 'Indeed, I have a pond, the distance between its two sides is like the distance from 'Ayla to Makkah or perhaps he said Sana'a to Madinah. And indeed, in it are vessels like the stars, it is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks from it will never thirst again.' Abu Sabrah said, 'So Ubaidullah bin Ziyad took the book, and I became anxious for it. Then I met Yahya bin Ya'mar and I complained to him about that. He said, 'By Allah, I have memorized it from him for a Surah from the Quran.' So he narrated it to me as it was in the book, equally."

[AI] Abu Sabrah ibn Salamah al-Hudhali heard Ibn Zyad asking about the Pool of Muhammad ﷺ , and he replied, "I do not truly see it because Abu Barzah al-Aslami, Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, and 'A'idh ibn 'Amr were asked about it, and they said they did not believe in them." So Abu Sabrah said, "Shall I not tell you a healing narration? Your father sent me with money to Muawiyah, and I met Abdullah ibn Amr who narrated it to me. I wrote it with my own hand exactly as I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I did not add or subtract anything." He narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah does not love obscenity and foul language. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the Hour will not come until there appears obscenity, foul language, severing of family ties, bad treatment of neighbors, betrayal by the trustworthy, trustworthiness by the treacherous, and the likeness of the believer is that of a bee that eats what is good and lays good. When it lands on something, it does not corrupt it or break it. And the likeness of a believing servant is that of a good piece of gold, which is blown upon and remains pure and heavy." He ﷺ also said, "Your appointment is at my Pool. Its width is like its length, and it is farther than the distance between Ayla and Makkah. Its journey takes a month, and it contains cups whiter than silver, and whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty again." Ibn Zyad said, "No one has narrated to me a narration like this. I bear witness that the Pool is true and obligatory." And he took the scroll that Abu Sabrah had brought, and in the narration of Abu Usamah from Abdullah ibn Buraidah from Abu Sabrah.

[AI] "In a sale or a gift, Aisha gave it, and I swear by Allah, she said, 'Either Aisha will finish or I will stone her.' Aisha said when she heard that, 'Indeed, I have made a vow to Allah that I will never speak to Ibn Zubair.' So when Ibn Zubair pleaded with her during her prolonged migration to him, she said, 'By Allah, I will not intercede for him with anyone, nor will I break my vow that I made forever.' And when this continued for a long time with Ibn Zubair, Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin Abdi Yaghuth, who were from the Banu Zuhrah tribe, spoke to him and said, 'We swear by Allah that we will not enter upon Aisha unless you allow us, as it is not permissible for her to make a vow regarding our relationship.' So Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Abdul Rahman bin Al-Aswad went along with Abdullah bin Zubair, and they covered themselves with their cloaks until they sought permission to enter upon Aisha. And they said, 'Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Can we come in, O Mother of the Believers?' Aisha said, 'Enter.' And they said, 'All of us?' She said, 'Yes, all of you.' And Aisha did not know that Ibn Zubair was with them. So when they entered, Ibn Zubair broke through the veil and entered upon Aisha and embraced her, and he began to beg her and cry. And Al-Miswar and Abdul Rahman also pleaded with Aisha and said to her, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade what you did, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days.' When they persisted in reminding Aisha of this, she began to cry and remind them, and she said, 'I have made a vow, and the vow is severe.' And they continued with her until she spoke to Ibn Zubair, and then she released him from his vow. This involved the freeing of forty slaves. And even after she had released him from his vow, she continued to weep until her tears soaked her veil."

[AI] In a sale or donation she made, Aisha said, "By Allah, I will never speak to Ibn Zubayr again, ever. Abdullah ibn Zubayr interceded on his behalf when her seclusion with him became prolonged. Aisha said, "By Allah, I will not intercede for anyone in this matter, nor will I break the vow I made. When this went on for a long time, the Mawsur ibn Makhrama and Abdul Rahman ibn Al-Aswad ibn Abd Yaghuth, both of whom belonged to the tribe of Zuhra, spoke to him. They said, "We adjure you by Allah, unless you let us in to see Aisha, it is not permissible for her to sever ties with me. Mawsur and Abdul Rahman both approached the door of Ibn Zubayr, wrapped in their garments until they sought permission to enter upon Aisha. They said, "Peace be upon the Prophet and the mercy of Allah, may we enter?" Aisha said, "Enter." They said, "All of us, O Mother of the Believers?" She said, "All of you, and Aisha did not know that Ibn Zubayr was with them. When they entered, Ibn Zubayr broke into the curtain and embraced Aisha and began beseeching her and crying. Mawsur and Abdul Rahman also beseeched Aisha, except for what she said to them and accepted from them. They said to her, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade what you have learned about seclusion. It is not permissible for a Muslim to seclude himself from his brother for more than three nights." When they continued to remind and urge Aisha, she began to cry and said, "I made a vow and vows are serious." They persisted until she spoke to Ibn Zubayr and freed forty slaves in fulfillment of her vow. After that, she would often mention her vow and cry until her tears wet her face veil.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 6073)

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to travel with some of his wives and divide his time among them. He traveled with Aisha, the daughter of Abu Bakr, and she had a howdah. The howdah was carried by men who placed it on the camel. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions performed the marriage for Aisha, and she went out for a need and got delayed without anyone realizing it. When the Prophet ﷺ woke up, the people had already set off, and the men carrying the howdah came and lifted it without knowing that she was in it. So they set off, and Aisha arrived and found that they had already left, so she sat in her place. A man from the Ansar named Safwan bin Al-Muattal, who used to avoid women, came near her. He had a camel with him, and when he saw her, he carried her and used to see her before the veil. He put her on the camel and led it until they reached the people and the Prophet ﷺ . People spoke about it, and it reached the Prophet ﷺ , so it was hard for him. He secluded her and consulted Zaid bin Thabit and others about it. Zaid said, "O Messenger of Allah, leave her. Perhaps Allah will provide you with something better." Ali bin Abi Talib said, "Women are many." So the Prophet ﷺ lifted her onto him (for a better understanding of what is meant, refer to the Arabic text), and Aisha set out walking in the company of women. She stumbled and fell, causing people to curse a Mus`ab bin Umayr. Aisha said, "How terrible! You say such a thing to a man of the Messenger of Allah!" She told her the news, and she fainted. Then the Quran was revealed to excuse her in Surah An-Nur: "Verily those who brought forth the slander (against Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ ) are a group among you." Until it reached "Those who brought forth the lie are the obstructing group." And it was revealed until "Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." Abu Bakr used to support a man called Mistah financially and to give him charity. He also used to maintain good relations with him. But after this incident, Abu Bakr said that he would never spend anything on Mistah again. Then the verse was revealed: "Would you not love that Allah should forgive you?" So the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to go to her, cheer her up, and inform her of what Allah had revealed. Abu Bakr went to her and told her of her excuse and of what Allah had revealed. She said, "It is not because of your praise or of your companion's praise."

[AI] Omar, I am staying the night if God wills. I am warning them against those people who oppress them in their affairs," said Abdulrahman. So I said, "Oh Amir al-Mu'minin, do not do that on this day. The season gathers the masses and their chaos. I fear that you might say something that they would take and fly off with, and not put it in its proper place. Wait until you enter the city, as it is the abode of migration, Sunnah, and faith. Purify yourself with the scholars and their leaders. Say what you want to say in a way that they understand it and put it in its proper place," said Omar. "If I enter the city safely, I will speak to the people there in the first gathering I establish, if God wills," he added. According to Ibn Abbas, when I arrived at the city, I migrated to Jumaa and found Sa'id ibn Zayd had already proceeded me in migration. He sat next to the pulpit and I sat next to him. Omar did not ascend the pulpit, so I ascended it and performed the prayer of witness and praised Allah for what He deserves. Then he said, "As for what follows, I will say something to you which I do not know if it will remain with you until my death. Whoever understands it and preserves it, let him speak it wherever his journey ends. And whoever fears that he will not understand it, then it is not allowed for anyone to accuse me of lying. Indeed, Allah sent Muhammad ﷺ with the truth and revealed the book to him. In what was revealed to him was the verse of stoning, so we recited it and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried it out, and we carried it out after him. I fear that if a long time passes, someone might say, ‘We do not find the stoning in the book of Allah,’ and they will go astray by abandoning an obligation that Allah has revealed. Indeed, stoning is prescribed in the book of Allah for the one who committed adultery, if he is married, be it from the males or females, when clear evidence is established or if a confession is made."

[AI] Until he reached the women, then he added in the end of the speech things that you were promised and I have seen in my prayer until the fire comes and when you saw me, I hesitated for fear that it would burn me, and until I saw the owner of the broom dragging his broom in the fire, stealing the belongings of the pilgrims with his broom, if he was caught, he said, "It is attached to my broom," and if he was not noticed, he went away, and until I saw the owner of the cat that she tied it and did not feed it and did not let it eat from the earth's crust until it died of hunger, then the paradise was brought and that was when you saw me advance until I stood in my position and I stretched out my hand and I wanted to take its fruit for you to see it, then it appeared to me that I should not do it, so there is nothing that I promised you except that I have seen it in my prayer.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 6073)

[AI] I saw Umar ibn Al-Khattab before he was struck by the days in Medina. He stood with Hudhaifah ibn Al-Yaman and Uthman ibn Hunayf and said, "How have you two managed to bear the burden of the earth that it cannot bear?" They said, "We have carried it by a command that it can bear." Hudhaifah said, "If I were to carry it, it would be weakened." Uthman ibn Hunayf said, "I have carried it by a command that it can bear, without any great favor." Umar then said, "See that you have not carried the burden of the earth that it cannot bear." They said, "No." Umar said, "If Allah grants me safety, I will leave the widows of Iraq without needing any man after me." He said, "Only four things came upon him until he was struck." He said, "And between me and him, there is no one except Abdullah ibn Abbas in the morning." He said, "And he used to stand between the rows. If he saw any disorder among them, he would say, 'Stand still until there is no disorder among them.' Then he would proceed and say the takbir." He said, "And perhaps he would recite Surah Yusuf or An-Nahl or something similar in the first raka'a until the people gathered." He said, "And it was only that he would say the takbir." He said, "I heard him say, 'The dog has killed me or the dog has eaten me,' when he was stabbed. Then he flew out of the wound with a double-edged knife that would not pass by anyone to the right or left except that it would stab him, until he stabbed thirteen men and nine of them died. When he saw that, a Muslim man threw a cloak on him. When the assassin thought that he had taken hold of him, he slit his own throat." He said, "And Umar held the hand of Abdullah ibn Awf and brought him forward." He said, "Who will take care of Umar? He has seen what he has seen." He said, "Regarding the surroundings of the mosque, they did not know anything except that they had lost the voice of Umar while they were saying, 'Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah.' Abdul-Rahman ibn Awf led them in a light prayer. When they finished, Umar said, 'O Ibn Abbas, see who killed me.' He went for a while and then came back and said, 'The slave of Al-Mughirah killed him.' He said, 'Really?' After they all spoke with their tongues and prayed towards their qibla and performed the Hajj according to their rites, he was brought to his house. We then left with him." He said, "And it was as if the people had not been affected by any calamity before that day. Some were saying, 'There is no harm,' while others were saying, 'We fear for him.' So they brought some wine and he drank it, and it came out of his wound. Then they brought some milk and he drank it, and it came out of his wound. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ

bayhaqi:20871Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh b. Bishrān al-ʿAdl> Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿAmr al-Razzāz > ʿĪsá b. ʿAbdullāh al-Ṭayālisī > Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman al-Muqriʾ > Kahmas b. al-Ḥasan > ʿAbdullāh b. Buraydah > Yaḥyá b. Yaʿmar > Kān Awwal Man

(Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4695)
