خَالِدُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ

[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to sit with a group of his companions, among whom was a man with a young son. The son would come and sit next to the Prophet from behind him until the boy passed away. The man refrained from attending the gathering to remember Allah and would grieve over his son's death, so the Prophet asked, "Why don't I see so-and-so?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, his son whom you saw has passed away, and that is why he refrained from coming to the gathering." The Prophet met the man and asked him about his son. After being informed that the boy had passed away, the Prophet consoled him. Then he asked the man, "Which would you prefer: to enjoy his company in your lifetime or for you to enter through one of the gates of Paradise tomorrow and find him waiting for you, opening it for you?" The man replied, "O Prophet of Allah, instead, let him precede me to the gates of Paradise and open them for me. That would be more beloved to me." The Prophet said, "So be it." Then a man from the Ansar (the people of Madinah who supported the Prophet after his migration from Makkah) stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, may Allah make me your ransom, is this privilege only for him specifically, or is it for those who have lost their children among the Muslims?" The Prophet replied, "Rather, it is for every Muslim who loses a child."

"When the Prophet of Allah sat, some of his Companions would sit with him. Among them was a man who had a little son who used to come to him from behind, and he would make him sit in front of him. He (the child) died, and the man stopped attending the circle because it reminded him of his son, and made him feel sad. The Prophet missed him and said: 'Why do I not see so-and-so?' They said: O Messenger of Allah, his son whom you saw has died.' The Prophet met him and asked him about his son, and he told him that he had died. He offered his condolences and said: 'O son-and-so, which would you like better, to enjoy his company all you life, or to come to any of the gates of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection, and find that he arrived there before you, and he is opening the gate for you?' he said: 'O Prophet of Allah! For him to get to the gate of Paradise before me and open it for me is dearer to me.' He said: 'You will have that."'

[Machine] "His father recited the following hadith in a story about a man who had young sons. They used to come to the Prophet ﷺ and one of his sons died. The man was so sad that he did not attend the gathering. When the Prophet ﷺ met him, he asked him about his son, and the man informed him that he had passed away. The Prophet ﷺ then consoled him, saying, 'O so-and-so, which one would you prefer: to have him with you throughout your entire life or that whenever you enter a gate of paradise, you find him waiting for you and opening it for you?' The man replied, 'The Prophet of Allah, I would prefer him to precede me to the gates of paradise.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Then that shall be for you.' At that moment, a man from the Ansar stood up and asked the Prophet ﷺ , 'O Prophet of Allah, may I be sacrificed for you! Is this specific to him or is it for anyone who loses a child among the Muslims?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'No, rather it is for anyone who loses a child among the Muslims. It will be as if that child is for him.'"
