[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man from my people insults me, so is it permissible for me to retaliate against him?" He replied, "The devil has two temptations, both of which are liars and boastful."  

الطبراني:١٥١٣٠حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ قَوْمِي يَشْتُمُنِي فَهَلْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ بَأْسٍ أَنْ أَنْتَصِرَ مِنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ «الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ مُتَهاتِرَانِ وَمُتَكاذِبَانِ»

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, there is a man from my people who insults me, and he is weaker than me. Can I respond to him?" The Prophet, ﷺ , said, "The one who instigates is a Satan, and the one who lies is a Satan."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْقَوْمِي يَشْتُمُنِي وَهُوَ دُونِي عَلَيَّ بَأْسٌ أَنْ أَنْتَصِرَ مِنْهُ؟ قَالَ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاذَيَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ

[Machine] I said, "O Prophet of Allah, a man from my people insults me while I am inferior to him. Should I seek revenge against him?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "The mocker and the lied against are the two devils who argue with each other and tell lies."  

ابن حبّان:٥٧٢٦أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُكْرَمِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْبِرْتِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ قَوْمِي يَشْتُمُنِي وَهُوَ دُونِي أَفَأَنْتَقِمُ مِنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاتَرَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ»

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man from my people insults me and he is inferior to me. Is it better for me to respond or to remain patient?" He replied, "The parable of the two indulging in mutual slander is like that of two devils playing together, each saying lies and exaggerations."
