tabarani:14664 – ʿUthmān b. ʿUmar al-Ḍabbī > ʿAmr b. Marzūq > Shuʿbah > al-Aʿmash > Abū Wāʾil > Abū Masʿūd

[Machine] We used to compete with each other in giving charity. One of us would bring a small amount, while another man would bring half a saa. Then, some hypocrites would mock us. So, the verse (Those who defame the voluntary givers among the believers in the charities) was revealed.  

الطبراني:١٤٦٦٤ – حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا نَتَحَامَلُ فَيَجِيءُ أَحَدُنَا بِالصَّدَقَةِ الْقَلِيلَةِ وَيَجِيءُ الرَّجُلُ بِالنِّصْفِ صَاعٍ فَيَلْمِزُنَا نَاسٌ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فَنَزَلَتْ {الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ} الْآيَةَ

[Machine] "We used to mock each other, so a man would bring charity and it would be said, 'This is unnecessary,' and another man would bring half a sa' (unit of measurement) and it would be said, 'Indeed, Allah is wealthy and does not need this.' This verse was revealed: 'Those who ridicule the believers who give charity voluntarily.' "  

ابن حبّان:٣٣٧٦ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِيِّ قَالَ

«كُنَّا نَتَحَامَلُ فَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَيُقَالُ هَذَا مُرَاءٍ وَيَجِيءُ الرَّجُلُ بِنِصْفِ الصَّاعِ فَيُقَالُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لِغَنِيٌّ عَنْ هَذَا فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ} »
