I advise you to fear Allah, as it beautifies all aspects of your life. You should recite the Quran and remember Allah, as it is a remembrance for you in the heavens and a light for you on earth. Maintain silence except for good, as it repels Satan from you and assists you in matters of your religion. Beware of excessive laughter, as it deadens the heart and diminishes the radiance of the face. Embrace striving (jihad) as it is the monasticism of my Ummah (community). Love the poor and sit with them. Look towards those below you and avoid looking towards those above you, as it is more appropriate not to belittle Allah's blessings upon you. Maintain ties with your relatives, even if they cut you off. Speak the truth, even if it is bitter, and do not fear the blame of the blamers when it prevents you from what you know about yourself. Do not impose on others what they cannot bear. It is enough for a person to have three faults: to know in people what he is ignorant of in himself, to think highly of them based on what he has, and to harm his companion. O Abu Dhar! There is no intellect like good planning, no piety like restraint, and no calculation like good character.
