I performed Hajj along with Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage and saw him when he flung pebbles at Jamrat al-'Aqaba and returned while he was riding the camel, and Bilal and Usama were with him. One of them was leading his camel, while the other was raising his cloth over the head of Messenger of Allah ﷺ to protect him from the sun. She (further) said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ said so many things, and I heard him saying: If a slave having some limb of his missing and having dark complexion is appointed to govern you according to the Book of Allah the Exalted. listen to him and obey him.

سَمِعْتُهَا تَقُولُ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ حِينَ رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ وَانْصَرَفَ وَهُوَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ وَمَعَهُ بِلاَلٌ وَأُسَامَةُ أَحَدُهُمَا يَقُودُ بِهِ رَاحِلَتَهُ وَالآخَرُ رَافِعٌ ثَوْبَهُ عَلَى رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الشَّمْسِ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَوْلاً كَثِيرًا ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ مُجَدَّعٌ حَسِبْتُهَا قَالَتْ أَسْوَدُ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوا

I heard her say: I performed Hajjat-ul-Wada' in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said a lot of things (on this occasion). Then I heard him say: If a maimed slave is appointed a commander over you the narrator says: I think she said:" a black stave" who leads you according to the Book of Allah, then listen to him and obey him.

سَمِعْتُهَا تَقُولُ حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَوْلاً كَثِيرًا ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ مُجَدَّعٌ حَسِبْتُهَا قَالَتْ أَسْوَدُ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوا

[AI] I performed the farewell pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I saw either Usama or Bilal leading the Messenger of Allah's camel by its reins, and the other one raising his garment to cover him from the heat until he threw the pebbles at Al-Aqaba. Then he turned and the people stood up. He placed his garment from under his right armpit on his left shoulder. I saw beneath his right sleeve a patch resembling a collection [of lice]. Then he mentioned many things, and he used to say, ﷺ, "If a slave who is a Muja'adh comes to you with the Book of Allah, listen and obey. Have I conveyed (the message)?"

حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَرَأَيْتُ أُسَامَةَ أَوْ بِلَالًا يَقُودُ بِخِطَامِ نَاقَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالْآخَرَ رَافِعُ ثَوْبَهُ يَسْتُرُهُ بِهِ مِنَ الْحَرِّ حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَوَقَفَ النَّاسُ وَقَدْ جَعَلَ ثَوْبَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ إِبْطِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ الْأَيْسَرِ قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُ تَحْتَ غُضْرُوفِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ كَهَيْئَةِ جُمْعٍ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ قَوْلًا كَثِيرًا وَكَانَ فِيمَا يَقُولُ ﷺ «إِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ مُجَدَّعٌ أَسْوَدُ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَاسْمَعُوا وَأَطِيعُوا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ؟ »

[AI] I performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Hajj. I saw Bilal and Usama, with Bilal leading his mount by the reins and the other raising his garment as a shield against the heat until he threw the jamarat Al-Aqaba (pebbles at the Devil). Then he turned around, placing his garment under his right armpit and over his left shoulder. I saw on the underside of his right shoulder a mark resembling the shape of a bracelet. He stood among the people and delivered a long speech, part of which was that "I have appointed a black Abyssinian named Bilal as leader over you. He will lead you with the Book of Allah, so listen to him and obey him."

حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَرَأَيْتُ بِلَالًا وَأُسَامَةَ وَبِلَالٌ يَقُودُ بِخِطَامِ رَاحِلَتِهِ وَالآخَرُ رَافِعًا ثَوْبَهُ سُتْرَةً بِهِ مِنَ الْحَرِّ حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ جَعَلَ ثَوْبَهُ تَحْتَ إِبْطِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ الْأَيْسَرِ فَرَأَيْتُ تَحْتَ عُرْصُوفِ كَتِفِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ كَهَيْأَةِ جَمْعٍ فَوَقَفَ لِلنَّاسِ فَقَالَ قَوْلًا كَثِيرًا فَكَانَ مِمَّا يَقُولُ إِنْ «أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ أَسْوَدُ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَاسْمَعُوا وَأَطِيعُوا»
