Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from the Ghazwa of Tabuk, and when he approached Medina, he said, "There are some people in Medina who were with you all the time, you did not travel any portion of the journey nor crossed any valley, but they were with you they (i.e. the people) said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Even though they were at Medina?" He said, "Yes, because they were stopped by a genuine excuse."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَجَعَ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَدَنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَقْوَامًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مَسِيرًا وَلاَ قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا إِلاَّ كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ

Anas bin Malik reported on the authority of his father, The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said “ You left behind some people in Madeenah who did not fail to be with you wherever you went and whatever you spent (of your goods) and whatever valley you crossed. They asked Apostle of Allaah ﷺ how can they be with us when they are still in Madeenah? He replied “They were declined by a valid excuse.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَقَدْ تَرَكْتُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَقْوَامًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مَسِيرًا وَلاَ أَنْفَقْتُمْ مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ وَلاَ قَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ وَادٍ إِلاَّ وَهُمْ مَعَكُمْ فِيهِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَكَيْفَ يَكُونُونَ مَعَنَا وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَ حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ

“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was returning from the campaign of Tabuk, and had drawn close to Al-Madinah, he said: ‘In Al-Madinah there are people who, as you traveled and crossed valleys, were with you.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, even though they are in Al-Madinah?’ He said: ‘Even though they were in Al-Madinah. They were kept behind by (legitimate) excuses.’”

لَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَدَنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ لَقَوْمًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مِنْ مَسِيرٍ وَلاَ قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا إِلاَّ كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ فِيهِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ

“in Al-Madinah there are men who, every time you crossed a valley or travelled a road, they shared with you in the reward. They were kept behind by (legitimate) excuses.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ رِجَالاً مَا قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا وَلاَ سَلَكْتُمْ طَرِيقًا إِلاَّ شَرِكُوكُمْ فِي الأَجْرِ حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَاجَهْ أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ كَتَبْتُهُ لَفْظًا

“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was returning from the campaign of Tabuk, and had drawn close to Al-Madinah, he said: ‘In Al-Madinah there are people who, as you traveled and crossed valleys, were with you.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, even though they are in Al-Madinah?’ He said: ‘Even though they were in Al-Madinah. لَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَدَنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ لَقَوْمًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مَسِيرًا وَلَا قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا إِلَّا كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ فِيهِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ؟ قَالَ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, there are people in Al-Madina whom you have not crossed any valley or taken any path except that they have accompanied you in it." They said, "Even though they are in Al-Madina?" He said, "Their excuse has kept them back."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَقْوَامًا مَا قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا وَلَا سِرْتُمْ مَسِيرًا إِلَّا شَرَكُوكُمْ فِيهِ قَالُوا وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ حَبَسَهُمْ الْعُذْرُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, you have left behind in the city men whom you have not crossed a valley nor taken a road except that they have shared in your rewards. Illness has detained them."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ خَلَّفْتُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِرِجَالًا مَا قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا وَلَا سَلَكْتُمْ طَرِيقًا إِلَّا شَرَكُوكُمْ فِي الْأَجْرِ حَبَسَهُمُ الْمَرَضُ

“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was returning from the campaign of Tabuk, and had drawn close to Al-Madinah, he said: ‘In Al-Madinah there are people who, as you traveled and crossed valleys, were with you.’ They said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, even though they are in Al-Madinah?’ He said: ‘Even though they were in Al-Madinah. لَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ وَدَنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ «إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَقْوَامًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مِنْ مَسِيرٍ وَلَا قَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ وَادٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ فِيهِ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ»

"إِنَّ بالْمدينة أقوامًا ما سرتُمْ مسِيرًا، ولا أنفقْتُم مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ، ولا قَطَعْتُمْ وَاديًا إِلَّا كانوا مَعَكُم فِيهِ، قالوَا: يا رسُولَ اللَّهِ وهُم بالمدينة؟ قال: وَهُم بالمدينة، حَبَسَهُم العُذْرَ".

"لَقَدْ خلَّفْتُم بِالْمَدِينَةِ رِجَالًا، مَا قَطَعْتُم وَادِيًا، ولا سَلَكْتُمْ طَرِيقًا إِلا شَركُوكُمْ فِي الأَجْرِ، حَبسَهُم الْمَرَضُ".
