" عَنْ قَباثِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ: أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ أَوْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ فَقَالَ: رَسُولُ الله ﷺ أَكْبَرُ مِنِّى، وَأَنَا أَقْدَمُ مِنْهُ بِعِشْرِينَ سَنَةً، ولُدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفِيلِ، وَوَقَفَتْ بِى أُمِّى عَلَى رَوْثِ الْفِيلِ مُحِيلًا أَعْقِلُهُ وَنُبِئَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى رَأسِ أَرْبَعِينَ مِنَ الْفِيلِ".
from his father, from his grandfather, that he said: "I and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, were born in the Year of the Elephant" - he said: "And 'Uthman bin 'Affan asked Qubath bin Ashyam, the brother of Banu Ya'mar bin Laith - 'Are you greater (in age) or the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?'" He said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is greater than me, but I have an earlier birthday." He said: "And I saw the defecation of the birds turning green."
وُلِدْتُ أَنَا وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفِيلِ وَسَأَلَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ قُبَاثَ بْنَ أَشْيَمَ أَخَا بَنِي يَعْمُرَ بْنِ لَيْثٍ أَأَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ أَمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَكْبَرُ مِنِّي وَأَنَا أَقْدَمُ مِنْهُ فِي الْمِيلاَدِ وُلِدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفِيلِ وَرَفَعَتْ بِي أُمِّي عَلَى الْمَوْضِعِ قَالَ وَرَأَيْتُ خَذْقَ الْفِيلِ أَخْضَرَ مُحِيلاً
[Machine] I heard Abdul Malik ibn Marwan saying to al-Qabath ibn Ashyam, "O al-Qabath, are you older or the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He replied, "No, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is older than me and I am younger than him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was born in the year of the Elephant and his prophecy was revealed when he was forty years old." Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ يَقُولُ لِلْقَبَاثِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ يَا قَبَاثُ أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ أَمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ بَلْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَكْبَرُ مِنِّي وَأَنَا أَسَنُّ مِنْهُ «وُلِدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفِيلِ وَتَنَبَّأَ عَلَى رَأْسِ الْأَرْبَعِينَ مِنَ الْفِيلِ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
[Machine] I heard Abdul Malik bin Marwan say to Kabath bin Ashyam al-Laythi, "O Kabath, are you older or is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is older than me, and I am younger than him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was born in the year of the Elephant and he foretold the events of the forty elephants."
سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ يَقُولُ لِقَبَاثِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ اللَّيْثِيِّ يَا قَبَاثُ أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ أَمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَ «رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَكْبَرُ مِنِّي وَأَنَا أَسَنُّ مِنْهُ وُلِدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفِيلِ وَتَنَبَّأَ عَلَى رَأْسِ أَرْبَعِينَ مِنَ الْفِيلِ»
