During the lifetime of Messenger of Allah ﷺ I was shooting my arrows in Medina, when an eclipse of the sun took place. I, therefore, threw them away and said, I must see how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ acts in a solar eclipse today. When I came to him, he had been supplicating with his hands, raised, pronouncing Allah-o-Akbar, praising Him, acknowledging that He is One God till the eclipse was over, then he recited two surahs and prayed two rak'ahs.

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَرْمِي بِأَسْهُمِي فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذِ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَنَبَذْتُهُنَّ وَقُلْتُ لأَنْظُرَنَّ إِلَى مَا يَحْدُثُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي انْكِسَافِ الشَّمْسِ الْيَوْمَ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ رَافِعٌ يَدَيْهِ يَدْعُو وَيُكَبِّرُ وَيَحْمَدُ وَيُهَلِّلُ حَتَّى جُلِّيَ عَنِ الشَّمْسِ فَقَرَأَ سُورَتَيْنِ وَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

During the lifetime of Messenger of Allah ﷺ I was shooting some of my arrows in Medina, when the sun eclipsed. I threw (the arrows) and said: By Allah, I must see how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ acts in solar eclipse. So I came to him and he was standing in prayer, raising his hands, glorifying Him, praising Him, acknowledging His Oneness, declaring His greatness, and supplicating Him, till the sun cleared. When the eclipse was over, he recited two surahs and prayed two rak'ahs.

عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَرْتَمِي بِأَسْهُمٍ لِي بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذْ كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَنَبَذْتُهَا فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ لأَنْظُرَنَّ إِلَى مَا حَدَثَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ فِي الصَّلاَةِ رَافِعٌ يَدَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ يُسَبِّحُ وَيَحْمَدُ وَيُهَلِّلُ وَيُكَبِّرُ وَيَدْعُو حَتَّى حُسِرَ عَنْهَا قَالَ فَلَمَّا حُسِرَ عَنْهَا قَرَأَ سُورَتَيْنِ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

[AI] "While I was throwing arrows, the sun appeared, so I abandoned them and went towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I reached him while he was standing, raising his hands, glorifying, magnifying, praising his Lord, and supplicating until it got clear. He then recited two surahs in two units of prayer."

«بَيْنَمَا أَرْمِي أَسْهُمًا إِذِ انْكَشَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ رَافِعٌ يَدَيْهِ يُسَبِّحُ وَيُكَبِّرُ وَيَحْمَدُ رَبَّهُ وَيَدْعُو حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ وَقَرَأَ سُورَتَيْنِ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ»

[AI] "I was throwing stones at them in the city when it collapsed, so I abandoned it. Then I said, 'By Allah, I will see what happens to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the eclipse of the sun.' He was standing and raising his hands in prayer. He began to glorify, praise, exalt, and invoke until his voice became hoarse. When he finished, he recited two chapters of the Quran and performed two units of prayer."

«كُنْتُ أَرْمِي بَأْسَهُمٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ إِذْ خَسَفَتْ فَنَبَذْتُهَا» فَقُلْتُ «وَاللَّهِ لَأَنْظُرَنَّ مَا يُحَدِّثُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ» قَالَ «فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ ﷺ قَائِمٌ فِي الصَّلَاةِ رَافِعٌ يَدَيْهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يُسَبِّحُ وَيَحْمَدُ وَيُكَبِّرُ وَيُهَلِّلُ وَيَدْعُو حَتَّى حَسَرَ فَلَمَّا حَسَرَ عَنْهَا قَرَأَ سُورَتَيْنِ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ»

[AI] While I was throwing arrows in the life of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , suddenly the sun was eclipsed, so I left them and said, "Let me see what happens to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the solar eclipse today." I approached him and saw him raising his hands, glorifying, praising, inciting the talbiyah, declaring the greatness (of Allah) and supplicating, until the sun was cleared. Then he recited two Surahs and performed two units of prayer.
