A man paid in advance for a palm-tree. It did not bear fruit that year. They brought their case for decision to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: for which do you make his property lawful? He then said: Do not pay in advance for a palm-tree till they (the fruits) were clearly in good condition.

[Machine] "A man bought a palm tree from another man, but he did not produce anything that year. So they came together and disputed the matter to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'How will you consider his money lawful? Return his money to him and do not take possession of the palm tree until its goodness becomes apparent.' So I asked the plaintiff, 'What is its goodness?' He said, 'Either it will produce good dates or it will become abundant with leaves.'"
