“A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘Shall I perform Hajj on behalf of my father?’ He said: ‘Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father, for if you cannot add any good to his record (at least) you will not add anything bad.’”
[Machine] Abdul Razzaq narrated that Sufyan Al-Thawri narrated from Al-Shaybani, who narrated from Yazid ibn Al-Asamm, who narrated from Ibn Abbas that a man asked the Prophet ﷺ, "O Messenger of Allah, should I perform Hajj on behalf of my father?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf if it brings him good. Otherwise, do not do anything that could harm him."
