" عَن ابنِ المسيَّب قَالَ: أَنْشَدَ حَسَّانُ بنُ ثَابِتٍ فِى المسْجِدِ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ عُمَرُ فَلَحَظَهُ، فَقَالَ حَسَّانُ: والله لَقَدْ أَنْشَدْتُ فِيهِ وَفِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيرٌ مِنْكَ، فَخَشِىَ أَنْ يَرْمِيَهُ برَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَأَجَازَ وَتَرَكَهُ".

[Machine] Hassan, by Allah, I have indeed praised in him, someone who is better than you, and I feared that he would throw it at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he responded and left it.

[Machine] Hassan chanted in the mosque, so Umar passed by him and noticed him. Umar asked, "In the mosque? In the mosque?" Hassan replied, "By Allah, I have chanted in it someone who is better than you, and I feared that he would throw him out by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So Umar gave him permission and left him.
