"مَنْ كان مُصَلِّيًا بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ فلْيُصَلِّ أَرْبعًا، فإِنْ عَجَّلَ بأَحَد مِنْكُمْ حَاجَةٌ فلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتينِ".

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever among you prays after Friday (prayer), let him pray four (rakahs).”

Abu ʿIsa said: This hadith is sound and good (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ). Al-Hasan ibn ʿAli narrated to us; ʿAli ibn al-Madini narrated to us, from Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah, who said: We used to regard Suhayl ibn Abi Salih as reliable/firm in hadith. Practice according to this is held by some of the people of knowledge. It has been narrated from ʿAbdullah ibn Masʿud that he used to pray four rakʿahs before Jumuʿah and four after it. It has also been narrated from ʿAli ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he ordered that after Jumuʿah one should pray two rakʿahs, then four. Sufyan al-Thawri and Ibn al-Mubarak went with the view of Ibn Masʿud. Ishaq said: If he prays in the mosque on Friday, he prays four; and if he prays in his house, he prays two. He used as evidence that the Prophet ﷺ used to pray two rakʿahs after Jumuʿah in his house, and the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ: “Whoever among you prays after Jumuʿah, let him pray four.” Abu ʿIsa said: Ibn ʿUmar is the one who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he used to pray two rakʿahs after Jumuʿah in his house. And Ibn ʿUmar, after the Prophet ﷺ, prayed two rakʿahs in the mosque after Jumuʿah, and after the two rakʿahs he prayed four. Ibn Abi ʿUmar narrated this to us; Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAta’, who said: I saw Ibn ʿUmar pray two rakʿahs after Jumuʿah, then after that he prayed four. Saʿid ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Makhzumi narrated to us; Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Dinar, who said: I have not seen anyone more precise/explicit in hadith than al-Zuhri, and I have not seen anyone to whom dinars and dirhams were more insignificant than him; if dinars and dirhams were with him, they were like dung to him. Abu ʿIsa said: I heard Ibn Abi ʿUmar say: I heard Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah say: ʿAmr ibn Dinar was older than al-Zuhri.
