When two persons indulge in hurling (abuses) upon one another, it would be the first one who would be the sinner so long as the oppressed does not transgress the limits.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ مَا قَالاَ فَعَلَى الْبَادِئِ مَا لَمْ يَعْتَدِ الْمَظْلُومُ

when two men abuse one another, what they say is laid to the charge of the one who began it, so long as the one who is wronged does not go over the score.

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who seeks to distinguish between two things is challenged by two devils who deceive and argue with each other."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَكَاذَبَانِ وَيَتَهَاتَرَانِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two devils that accuse and dispute with each other."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَكَاذَبَانِ وَيَتَهَاتَرَانِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاتَرَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ

[AI] "From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, 'The one who seeks to make things clear and investigate is like two deceitful and argumentative devils.'"
