quran:43:58

And they said, "Are your gods better, or is he?" They did not present the comparison except for ˹mere˺ argument. But, ˹in fact˺, they are a people prone to dispute.  

And they say, ‘Are our gods better or he?’, Jesus. We are satisfied that our gods be ˹in the same predicament˺ with him. They only cite this, that is, the example, to you for the sake of contention, ˹merely˺ arguing with falsehood, for they know that ˹the particle˺ mā ˹of wa-mā ta‘budūna, ‘and what you worship’˺ refers ˹only˺ to non-rational beings and cannot therefore include Jesus, peace be upon him. Nay, but they are a contentious lot, an extremely disputatious folk.
القرآن:٤٣:٥٨

وَقَالُوا أَآلِهَتُنَا خَيْرٌ أَمْ هُوَ ۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ  

{وقالوا أألهتنا خير أم هو} أي عيسى فنرضى أن تكون آلهتنا معه {ما ضربوه} أي المثل {لك إلا جدلا} خصومة بالباطل لعلمهم أن ما لغير العاقل فلا يتناول عيسى عليه السلام {بل هم قوم خصمون} شديدو الخصومة.

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No people go astray after having followed right guidance, but those who indulge in disputes.' Then he recited the Verse: "Nay! But they are a quarrelsome people.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 48)   

أحمد:٢٢٢٠٤حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا ضَلَّ قَوْمٌ بَعْدَ هُدًى كَانُوا عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أُوتُوا الْجَدَلَ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًا بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ} [الزخرف 58]

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "No people have gone astray after being guided except that they were given to argumentation." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited, "{They did not harm you except [for some] annoyance. But they have been disputing people}." [Surah Az-Zukhruf, 58]  

الحاكم:٣٦٧٤أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْفَرَّاءُ أَنْبَأَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ أَنْبَأَ الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا ضَلَّ قَوْمٌ بَعْدَ هُدًى إِلَّا أُوتُوا الْجَدَلَ» ثُمَّ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ {مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًا بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ} [الزخرف 58]  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» صحيح
