"A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the cause of Allah with patience and seeking reward, facing the enemy and not running away, do you think that Allah will forgive my sins?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Yes.' When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him back and said: 'What did you say?' He repeated his question, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Yes, except debt. Jibril told me.'"  

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلاً غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ أَيُكَفِّرُ اللَّهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَاىَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ نَادَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَوْ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَنُودِيَ لَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَيْفَ قُلْتَ فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ قَوْلَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِلاَّ الدَّيْنَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ  

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Said al- Maqburi from Abdullah ibn Abi Qatada that his father had said that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah! If I am killed in the way of Allah, expectant for reward, sincere, advancing, and not retreating, will Allah pardon my faults?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes." When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him - or commanded him and he was called to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "What did you say?" He repeated his words to him, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Yes, except for the debt. Jibril said that to me."  

أَنَّهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلاً غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ أَيُكَفِّرُ اللَّهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَاىَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ نَادَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَوْ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَنُودِيَ لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَيْفَ قُلْتَ فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ قَوْلَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِلاَّ الدَّيْنَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ  

[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "What do you think if I strive in the cause of Allah with my own self and wealth, until I am killed while patient, seeking reward, and not turning back, will I enter Paradise?" He replied, "Yes." Then, when he turned to leave, the Prophet called him back and said, "Except if you have a debt that you have not fulfilled."  

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ جَاهَدْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ بِنَفْسِي وَمَالِي حَتَّى أُقْتَلَ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ أَأَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَلَمَّا وَلَّى دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ عَلَيْكَ دَيْنٌ لَيْسَ لَهُ عِنْدَكَ وَفَاءٌ  

"A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the cause of Allah with patience and seeking reward, facing the enemy and not running away, do you think that Allah will forgive my sins?' "A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I am killed in the cause of Allah with patience and seeking reward, facing the enemy and not running away, do you think that Allah will forgive my sins?' جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ يُكَفِّرُ اللهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ» فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ نَادَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ أَمَرَ بِهِ فَنُودِيَ لَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كَيْفَ قُلْتَ؟» فَأَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ قَوْلَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ إِلَّا الدَّيْنَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ»  

"A man came to the Prophet ﷺ when he was on the Minbar and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you think that if I wield this sword of mine in the cause of Allah, with patience and seeking reward, facing the enemy, and not running away, will Allah forgive my sins?' He said: 'Yes.' When he turned away, he called him back and said: 'Jibril says: unless you are in debt.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3158)  

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ ضُرِبْتُ بِسَيْفِي هَذَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ حَتَّى أُقْتَلَ أَتُكَفَّرُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ يَقُولُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ عَلَيْكَ دَيْنٌ
