"We were with the Messenger of Allah on the night of Arafat which is before Arafat, when he heard a snake. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Kill it.' It went into a crack in a rock, and we put a stick in and broke part of the hole, then we took some palm tree leave and set them ablaze in the hole. The Messenger of Allah: 'Allah protected it from your evil and protected you from its evil.'"  

النسائي:٢٨٨٤ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ فَإِذَا حِسُّ الْحَيَّةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اقْتُلُوهَا فَدَخَلَتْ شَقَّ جُحْرٍ فَأَدْخَلْنَا عُودًا فَقَلَعْنَا بَعْضَ الْجُحْرِ فَأَخَذْنَا سَعَفَةً فَأَضْرَمْنَا فِيهَا نَارًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَاهَا اللَّهُ شَرَّكُمْ وَوَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا

[Machine] We were sitting in the mosque of Al-Khayf on the night of Arafah, before the day of Arafah, when we heard the hissing of a snake. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it." So we stood up. He said, "Leave it." Then it entered a hole, so a palm-frond was brought and ignited with fire, and we used a stick to remove it from the hole but did not find it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave it, and may Allah protect you from its harm, just as He protected you from its evil."  

أحمد:٣٦٤٩ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ مُجَاهِدًا أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كُنَّا جُلُوسًا فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ قَبْلَ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا حِسَّ الْحَيَّةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اقْتُلُوا قَالَ فَقُمْنَا قَالَ فَدَخَلَتْ شَقَّ جُحْرٍ فَأُتِيَ بِسَعَفَةٍ فَأُضْرِمَ فِيهَا نَارًا وَأَخَذْنَا عُودًا فَقَلَعْنَا عَنْهَا بَعْضَ الْجُحْرِ فَلَمْ نَجِدْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دَعُوهَا وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْكَمَا وَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا

[Machine] While we were in the Mosque of Al-Khaif on the night of Arafah, we heard the hissing of a snake. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it." So it entered into a hole and he brought a torch and set it on fire. Then we emptied some of the holes, but we did not find it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave it, Allah has protected you from its evil and protected it from your harm."  

الطبراني:١٠١٥٧ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْعَلَّافُ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا نَافِعُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا حِسَّ الْحَيَّةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْتُلُوهَا» فَدَخَلَتْ فِي شَقِّ جُحْرٍ فَأَتَى بِسَعَفَةٍ فَأَضْرَمَ فِيهَا نَارًا ثُمَّ فَرَّغْنَا بَعْضَ الْجُحْرِ فَلَمْ نَجِدْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «دَعُوهَا؛ فَقَدْ وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْ وَوَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا»
