[Machine] I asked the Prophet ﷺ about fasting, and he said, "Fast one day out of every month." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am capable of more." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am also capable of more. Fast two days out of every month." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Increase me, increase me, three days out of every month."  

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فَقَالَ صُمْ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ يَوْمًا قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَقْوَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنِّي أَقْوَى إِنِّي أَقْوَى صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زِدْنِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زِدْنِي زِدْنِي ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ  

[Machine] I heard Abu Nawfal ibn Abi Aqrab saying, "My father asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about fasting. He said, 'Fast one day in every month.' My father said, 'O Messenger of Allah, increase me.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Increase me, increase me, and fast two days in every month.' He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, increase me, for I find myself strong.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I find myself strong, I find myself strong, I find myself strong.' He said, 'So I insisted until I thought he would not increase me.' He said, 'Then he said, 'Fast three days in every month.''  

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا نَوْفَلِ بْنَ أَبِي عَقْرَبٍ يَقُولُ سَأَلَ أَبِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فَقَالَ صُمْ يَوْمًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي زِدْنِي قَالَ يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زِدْنِي زِدْنِي صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي زِدْنِي فَإِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا قَالَ يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا قَالَ فَأَلْحَمَ أَيْ أَمْسَكَ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يَزِيدَنِي قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ  

[Machine] I asked the Prophet ﷺ about fasting. He said, "Fast one day of the month." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have the ability to do more." He said, "Fast two days of the month." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Increase me, increase me. Fast three days of every month."  

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ؟ فَقَالَ «صُمْ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ يَوْمًا» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَقْوَى قَالَ «صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زِدْنِي قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «زِدْنِي زِدْنِي صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ»  

"I asked the Messenger of Allah about fasting and he said: 'Fast one day of the month.' I said: 'Fast one day of the month.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, let me do more, let me do more.' He said: 'Let me do more, let mo do more; I am able for it.' Then the Messenger of Allah fell silent until I thought that he was going to refuse my request. Then he said: 'fast three days of each month."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2433)  

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فَقَالَ «صُمْ يَوْمًا مِنَ الشَّهْرِ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زِدْنِي قَالَ يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «زِدْنِي زِدْنِي صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «زِدْنِي زِدْنِي إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا» فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يَزِيدَنِي قَالَ «صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ»  

Abu Naufal bin Abu Aqrab has narrated on the authority of his father that he asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about (voluntary) fasts. He said,"observe one fast every month." He submitted, "May my father and mother be ransomed to you, permit me to keep more. "The Prophet (ﷺ) repeated (in anger) what he had said, "permit me to keep more, permit me to keep more.” He then added," keep two fasts every month". But, Abu Nawafal’s father again requested, "May my parents be ransomed to you, allow me to keep more because I find myself able (to observe more), I find myself able, I find myself able." He then maintained silence and it seemed that he would not give permission any more until he said," keep three fasts every month."  

أَنَّ أَبَاهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ فَقَالَ صُمْ يَوْمًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ قُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي زِدْنِي قَالَ زِدْنِي زِدْنِي صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ قُلْتُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي زِدْنِي فَإِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا فَأَفْحَمَ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يَزِيدَنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ صُمْ ثَلاَثًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ
