Do not desire an encounter with the enemy; but when you encounter them, be firm.  

مسلم:١٧٤١ – حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِزَامِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ الْعَدُوِّ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاصْبِرُوا

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Do not wish to meet the enemy, but when you meet face) the enemy, be patient."  

البخاري:٣٠٢٦ – وَقَالَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ الْعَدُوِّ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاصْبِرُوا  

bukhari:2833 – ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad > Muʿāwiyah b. ʿAmr > Abū Isḥāq > Mūsá b. ʿUqbah > Sālim Abū al-Naḍr > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Awfá Katab Faqaraʾtuh

ʿAbdullah bin Abi ʿAufa wrote and I read what he wrote that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you face them ( i.e. your enemy) then be patient."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاصْبِرُوا
