I asked Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with them) about the woman whom he had divorced. He said: I divorced her while she was in the state of menses. It was mentioned to 'Umar (Allah be pleased with him) and he then made a mention of that to Allah's Apostle ﷺ, whereupon he said: Command him to take her back and when the period of menses is over, then (he may divorce her in the state of her purity. He (Ibn Umar) said: So I took her back, then divorced her in her purity. I (the narrator) said: Did you count that divorce which you pronounced in the state of menses? He said: Why should I not have counted that? Was I helpless or foolish?

I asked Ibn ʿUmar about his wife whom he divorced. He said: I divorced her when she was menstruating, and I told ‘Umar about that, and he told the Prophet ﷺ , who said: ʿTell him to take her back, then when she becomes pure, he may divorce her when she is pure.” He said: So I took her back, then I divorced her when she was pure. I said: Was that divorce that you gave her when she was menstruating counted as such?ʿ He said: Why wouldnʿt I count it? It must be counted even if I failed and acted foolishly.

[Machine] About his wife whom he divorced during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "I divorced her while she was in a state of menstruation.” So, I mentioned that to Umar, and Umar mentioned it to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Tell him to take her back when she becomes pure and then divorce her while she is in a state of purity, according to the Sunnah." He said, "So, I did as told." Anas asked him, "Did you have sexual intercourse with her while she was in a state of menstruation?" He said, "Why should I not have intercourse with her when I desired and was eager?"
