48. Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah), Duʿāʾ (Supplication), Tawbah (Repentance), and Istighfār (Seeking Forgiveness)
٤٨۔ كتاب الذكر والدعاء والتوبة والاستغفار
The Prophet ﷺ did istighfār one hundred times a day
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is ˹at times˺ a sort of shade upon my heart, and I seek forgiveness from Allah a hundred times a day."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِنَّهُ لَيُغَانُ عَلَى قَلْبِي وَإِنِّي لأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فِي الْيَوْمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ۔»
Prophetic command to seek repentance
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O people, seek repentance from Allah. Verily, I seek repentance from Him a hundred times a day."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ، فَإِنِّي أَتُوبُ فِي الْيَوْمِ إِلَيْهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ۔»
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu'ba with the same chain of transmitters.
عَنْ شُعْبَةَ فِي هَذَا الإِسْنَادِ
Repentance is accepted up until the Last Hour
He who seeks repentance (from the Lord) before the rising of the sun from the west (before the Day of Resurrection), Allah turns to him with Mercy.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ تَابَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ۔»
