Yahya related to me from Malik from Humayd at-Tawil from Anas ibn Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade selling fruit until it had become mellow. He was asked, "Messenger ofAllah! What do you mean by become mellow?" He said, "When it becomes rosy." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ added, "Allah may prevent the fruit from maturing, so how can you take payment from your brother for it."  

مالك:٣١-١١ – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الثِّمَارِ حَتَّى تُزْهِيَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا تُزْهِي فَقَالَ حِينَ تَحْمَرُّ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا مَنَعَ اللَّهُ الثَّمَرَةَ فَبِمَ يَأْخُذُ أَحَدُكُمْ مَالَ أَخِيهِ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the sale of fruits till they are almost ripe. He was asked what is meant by 'are almost ripe.' He replied, "Till they become red." Messenger of Allah ﷺ further said, "If Allah spoiled the fruits, what right would one have to take the money of one's brother (i.e. other people)?"  

البخاري:٢١٩٨ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ

What is meant by" mellow"? He said: It implies that these became red. He said: When Allah hinders the growth of fruits, (then) what for the wealth of your brother would become permissible for you?  

مسلم:١٥٥٥b – حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the sale of fruits until they ripen. It was asked, "O Messenger of Allah, when do they ripen?" He replied, "Until they turn red." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, "What do you think if Allah prevents the fruit from ripening, how would someone take the property of his brother?"  

البيهقي:١٠٥٩٣ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ فِي آخَرِينَ قَالُوا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أنا الشَّافِعِيُّ أنا مَالِكٌ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الثِّمَارِ حَتَّى تُزْهَى فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا تُزْهَى؟ قَالَ حَتَّى تَحْمَرَّ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا مَنَعَ اللهُ الثَّمَرَةَ فَبِمَ يَأْخُذُ أَحَدُكُمْ مَالَ أَخِيهِ؟  

رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي الطَّاهِرِ عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ إِلَّا أَنَّهُمَا لَمْ يَقُولَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَلَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَلْ قَالَا فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ؟ وَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا فَقِيلَ لَهُ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ قَالُوا وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ مَالِكٍ كَمَا رَوَاهُ الشَّافِعِيُّ

Anas said, "The Prophet ﷺ forbade the selling of dates till they were almost ripe." We asked Anas, "What does 'almost ripe' mean?" He replied, "They get red and yellow. The Prophet ﷺ added, 'If Allah destroyed the fruits present on the trees, what right would the seller have to take the money of his brother (somebody else)?' " (Using translation from Bukhārī 2208)   

البيهقي:١٠٥٩٥ – وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ الْمُقْرِئُ ابْنُ الْحَمَّامِيِّ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ بَيْعِ الثَّمَرَةِ ثَمَرَةِ النَّخْلِ حَتَّى تَزْهُوَ قُلْنَا لِأَنَسٍ مَا زَهْوُهُ؟ قَالَ يَحْمَرُّ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا مَنَعَ اللهُ الثَّمَرَةَ بِمَ تَسْتَحِلُّ مَالَ أَخِيكَ؟
