٥۔ كتاب الْمَسَاجِدِ وَمَوَاضِعِ الصَّلاَةِ ص ٣
I heard ʿUthman bin ʿAffan saying, when people argued too much about his intention to reconstruct the mosque of Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "You have talked too much. I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Whoever built a mosque, (Bukair thought that ʿAsim, another sub-narrator, added, "Intending Allah's Pleasure"), Allah would build for him a similar place in Paradise.' "
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ قَوْلِ النَّاسِ فِيهِ حِينَ بَنَى مَسْجِدَ الرَّسُولِ ﷺ إِنَّكُمْ أَكْثَرْتُمْ وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ بَنَى مَسْجِدًا قَالَ بُكَيْرٌ حَسِبْتُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَبْتَغِي بِهِ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ مِثْلَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ
5.6 The recommendation to place the hands on the knees when bowing, and the abrogation of tatbiq
٥۔٦ باب النَّدْبِ إِلَى وَضْعِ الأَيْدِي عَلَى الرُّكَبِ فِي الرُّكُوعِ وَنَسْخِ التَّطْبِيقِ
5.8 The prohibition of speaking during the prayer, and the abrogation of its former permissibility
٥۔٨ باب تَحْرِيمِ الْكَلاَمِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ وَنَسْخِ مَا كَانَ مِنْ إِبَاحَتِهِ
5.9 The permissibility of cursing the Shaitan during prayer, and seeking refuge with Allah from him; and the permissibility of doing a few actions while in salat
٥۔٩ باب جَوَازِ لَعْنِ الشَّيْطَانِ فِي أَثْنَاءِ الصَّلاَةِ وَالتَّعَوُّذِ مِنْهُ وَجَوَازِ الْعَمَلِ الْقَلِيلِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ
5.10 The permissibility of carrying children during prayer, and their garments are regarded as being pure until it is realized that they are impure. Few actions will not invalidate the prayer, and the same applies if several such actions are done but are done separately
٥۔١٠ باب جَوَازِ حَمْلِ الصِّبْيَانِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ
5.11 The permissibility of taking one or two steps while praying, and that is not disliked if done for a reason. The permissibility of the Imam praying in a place that is higher than the people praying behind him, if that is done for a reason, such as teaching them how to offer prayers, and other than that.
٥۔١١ باب جَوَازِ الْخُطْوَةِ وَالْخُطْوَتَيْنِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ
5.12 It is disliked to put the hands on the waist during the prayer
٥۔١٢ باب كَرَاهَةِ الاِخْتِصَارِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ
When the Prophet ﷺ went out for (the battle of) Uhud, some of his companions (hypocrites) returned (home). A party of the believers remarked that they would kill those (hypocrites) who had returned, but another party said that they would not kill them. So, this Divine Inspiration was revealed: "Then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties concerning the hypocrites." (4.88) The Prophet ﷺ said, "Medina expels the bad persons from it, as fire expels the impurities of iron."
سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ ؓ يَقُولُ لَمَّا خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى أُحُدٍ رَجَعَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَتْ فِرْقَةٌ نَقْتُلُهُمْ وَقَالَتْ فِرْقَةٌ لاَ نَقْتُلُهُمْ فَنَزَلَتْ {فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينِ فِئَتَيْنِ} وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الرِّجَالَ كَمَا تَنْفِي النَّارُ خَبَثَ الْحَدِيدِ
5.13 It is disliked to smooth the pebbles or make the dirt level during salat
٥۔١٣ باب كَرَاهَةِ مَسْحِ الْحَصَى وَتَسْوِيَةِ التُّرَابِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ
5.14 The prohibition of spitting in the masjid, during prayer and at other times. The prohibition of a praying person spitting in front of him or to his right
٥۔١٤ باب النَّهْىِ عَنِ الْبُصَاقِ، فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ وَغَيْرِهَا
5.18 Prohibiting one who has eaten garlic, onions, or leeks, and other things that have an offensive odor from coming to the masjid, until that smell has gone away, and such a person should be expelled from the masjid
٥۔١٨ باب نَهْىِ مَنْ أَكَلَ ثُومًا أَوْ بَصَلاً أَوْ كُرَّاثًا أَوْ نَحْوَهَا عَنْ حُضُورِ الْمَسْجِدِ
5.20 As-Sahw (forgetfulness) in prayer and prostrating to compensate for it

5.21 The prostration of recitation

5.24 The remembrance after the prayer
٥۔٢٤ باب الذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَةِ
5.25 It is recommended to seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave, the punishment of hell, the trials of life and death, the tribulation of the Dajjal and from sin and debt between the tashah-hud and the taslim
٥۔٢٥ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ التَّعَوُّذِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ
5.26 From what refuge is to be sought when in salat
٥۔٢٦ باب مَا يُسْتَعَاذُ مِنْهُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ
I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ to teach me an invocation so that I may invoke Allah with it in my prayer. He told me to say, "Allahumma inni zalumtu nafsi zulman kathiran, Wala yaghfiru dh-dhunuba illa anta, fa ghfir li maghfiratan min ʿindika, wa r-hamni, innaka anta l-ghafuru r-rahim (O Allah! I have done great injustice to myself and none except You forgives sins, so bestow on me a forgiveness from You, and Have Mercy on me, You are the Forgiver, the Merciful).
عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ ؓ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلِّمْنِي دُعَاءً أَدْعُو بِهِ فِي صَلاَتِي قَالَ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
5.27 It is recommended to recite statements of remembrance after the prayer, and how that is to be done
٥۔٢٧ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ الذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَةِ وَبَيَان صِفَتِهِ
5.28 What is to be said between the opening takbir and the recitation of the Qur’an
٥۔٢٨ باب مَا يُقَالُ بَيْنَ تَكْبِيرَةِ الإِحْرَامِ وَالْقِرَاءَةِ
5.29 It is recommended to come to prayers in a tranquil and dignified manner, and it is forbidden to come in a hasty manner
٥۔٢٩ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ إِتْيَانِ الصَّلاَةِ بِوَقَارٍ وَسَكِينَةٍ وَالنَّهْىِ عَنْ إِتْيَانِهَا سَعْيًا
5.30 When should the people stand up to pray?
٥۔٣٠ باب مَتَى يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِلصَّلاَةِ
5.32 The times of the five prayers
٥۔٣٢ باب أَوْقَاتِ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ
5.33 The recommendation to delay Zuhr (until it has cooled down) in severe heat for one who finds it too hot in route to join the congregation
٥۔٣٣ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ الإِبْرَادِ بِالظُّهْرِ فِي شِدَّةِ الْحَرِّ لِمَنْ يَمْضِي إِلَى جَمَاعَةٍ وَيَنَالُهُ الْحَرُّ فِي طَرِيقِهِ
5.34 It is recommended to pray Zuhr at the beginning of its time when there is no intense heat
٥۔٣٤ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْدِيمِ الظُّهْرِ فِي أَوَّلِ الْوَقْتِ فِي غَيْرِ شِدَّةِ الْحَرِّ
5.35 It is recommended to pray ʿAsr early
٥۔٣٥ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ التَّبْكِيرِ بِالْعَصْرِ
5.36 Stern warning against missing the ʿAsr prayer
٥۔٣٦ باب التَّغْلِيظِ فِي تَفْوِيتِ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ
5.37 The evidence for those who say that “the middle prayer” is the ʿAsr prayer
٥۔٣٧ باب الدَّلِيلِ لِمَنْ قَالَ الصَّلاَةُ الْوُسْطَى هِيَ صَلاَةُ الْعَصْرِ
5.38 The virtue of the Subh and the ʿAsr prayers, and of maintaining them
٥۔٣٨ باب فَضْلِ صَلاَتَىِ الصُّبْحِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَيْهِمَا
5.39 The beginning of the time for Maghrib when the sun sets
٥۔٣٩ باب بَيَانِ أَنَّ أَوَّلَ وَقْتِ الْمَغْرِبِ عِنْدَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ
5.40 The time of ʿIsha and delaying it
٥۔٤٠ باب وَقْتِ الْعِشَاءِ وَتَأْخِيرِهَا
5.41 It is recommended to pray Subh early, at the beginning of its time, when it is still dark; and the length of recitation therein
٥۔٤١ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ التَّبْكِيرِ بِالصُّبْحِ فِي أَوَّلِ وَقْتِهَا وَهُوَ التَّغْلِيسُ وَبَيَانِ قَدْرِ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِيهَا
5.43 The virtue of prayer in congregation, and clarifying the stern warning against staying away from it, and that it is fard kifayah
٥۔٤٣ باب فَضْلِ صَلاَةِ الجَمَاعَةِ وَبَيَانِ التَّشْدِيدِ فِي التَّخَلُّفِ عَنْهَا
5.48 Concession allowing one to not attend the congregation if there is an excuse
٥۔٤٨ باب الرُّخْصَةِ فِي التَّخَلُّفِ عَنِ الْجَمَاعَةِ، بِعُذْرٍ
5.49 It is permissible to offer voluntary prayers in congregation, and to pray on hasir (palm-fiber mats), khumrah (small mats), cloth, and other pure things
٥۔٤٩ باب جَوَازِ الْجَمَاعَةِ فِي النَّافِلَةِ وَالصَّلاَةِ عَلَى حَصِيرٍ وَخُمْرَةٍ وَثَوْبٍ وَغَيْرِهَا مِنَ الطَّاهِرَاتِ
5.50 The virtue of offering the obligatory prayers in congregation, the virtue of waiting for prayer and taking many steps towards the masjid, the virtue of walking to the masjid
٥۔٥٠ باب فَضْلِ صَلاَةِ الْجَمَاعَةِ وَانْتِظَارِ الصَّلاَةِ
5.51 The virtue of taking many steps to the masjid
٥۔٥١ باب فَضْلِ كَثْرَةِ الْخُطَا إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ
5.52 Walking to prayer erases sins and raises one in status
٥۔٥٢ باب الْمَشْىُ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ تُمْحَى بِهِ الْخَطَايَا وَتُرْفَعُ بِهِ الدَّرَجَاتُ
5.54 Who is more entitled to lead the prayer
٥۔٥٤ باب مَنْ أَحَقُّ بِالإِمَامَةِ
5.55 It is recommended to say qunut in all prayers if a calamity befalls the Muslims – and refuge is sought from Allah (regarding that). It is recommended to say qunut in Subh at all times. And the clarification that it is to be said after raising the head from bowing in the final rakʿah, and it is recommended to say it out loud
٥۔٥٥ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ الْقُنُوتِ فِي جَمِيعِ الصَّلاَةِ إِذَا نزَلَتْ بِالْمُسْلِمِينَ نَازِلَةٌ
Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to Fatima's house but did not find ʿAli there. So he asked, "Where is your cousin?" She replied, "There was something between us and he got angry with me and went out. He did not sleep (midday nap) in the house." Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked a person to look for him. That person came and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! He (Ali) is sleeping in the mosque." Messenger of Allah ﷺ went there and ʿAli was lying. His upper body cover had fallen down to one side of his body and he was covered with dust. Messenger of Allah ﷺ started cleaning the dust from him saying: "Get up! O Aba Turab. Get up! O Aba Turab (literally means: O father of dust).
جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْتَ فَاطِمَةَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ عَلِيًّا فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ ابْنُ عَمِّكِ قَالَتْ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ شَىْءٌ فَغَاضَبَنِي فَخَرَجَ فَلَمْ يَقِلْ عِنْدِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لإِنْسَانٍ انْظُرْ أَيْنَ هُوَ فَجَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ رَاقِدٌ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهْوَ مُضْطَجِعٌ قَدْ سَقَطَ رِدَاؤُهُ عَنْ شِقِّهِ وَأَصَابَهُ تُرَابٌ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَمْسَحُهُ عَنْهُ وَيَقُولُ قُمْ أَبَا تُرَابٍ قُمْ أَبَا تُرَابٍ
