ذِكْرُ عَهْدِ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ مَا يَحِلُّ بِهِ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ بَعْدَهُ

ibnhibban:6918ʿImrān b. Mūsá b. Mujāshiʿ > ʿUthmān b. Abū Shaybah > Wakīʿ > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > Qays b. Abū Ḥāzim > ʿĀʾishah

"When he was ill, the Messenger of Allah said: 'I would like to have some of my Companions with me.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Shall we call Abu Bakr for you?' But he remained silent. We said: 'Shall we call 'Umar for you?' But he remained silent. We said: 'Shall we call 'Uthman for you?' He said: 'Yes.' So 'Uthman came and he spoke to him in private. The Prophet started to speak to him and 'Uthman's expression changed." Qais said: "Abu Sahlah, the freed slave of 'Uthman, narrated to me that on the Day of the House, 'Uthman bin 'Affan said: 'The Messenger of Allah told me what would come to pass and now I am coming to that day.'"In his narration of the Hadith, 'Ali (one of the narrators) said (that he said): "And I am going to bear it with patience." Qais said: "They used to think that that was the Day of the House." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 113)   

ابن حبّان:٦٩١٨أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي مَرَضِهِ «وَدِدْتُ أَنَّ عِنْدِي بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِي» قَالَتْ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَا نَدْعُو لَكَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ؟ فَسَكَتَ قُلْنَا عُمَرُ فَسَكَتَ قُلْنَا عَلِيٌّ فَسَكَتَ قُلْنَا عُثْمَانُ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قَالَتْ فَأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى عُثْمَانَ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُكَلِّمُهُ وَوَجْهُهُ يَتَغَيَّرُ قَالَ قَيْسٌ فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَهْلَةَ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ يَوْمَ الدَّارِ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ عَهْدًا وَأَنَا صَابِرٌ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ قَيْسٌ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during his illness in which he passed away, "I wish to have some of my companions with me." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, should we call Abu Bakr for you?" He remained silent. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, should we call Umar for you?" He remained silent. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, should we call Ali for you?" He remained silent. We said, "Should we call Uthman for you?" He said, "Yes." So we sent for Uthman and he came and stayed with him, and Uthman's face changed.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pray for some of my companions." I asked, "Abu Bakr?" He said, "No." I asked, "Umar?" He said, "No." I asked, "Your cousin Ali?" He said, "No." I asked, "Uthman?" He said, "Yes." When Uthman came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Step aside." He placed his left hand on his right hand, and the complexion of Uthman changed. When the day of battle came and they were besieged, we said, "O Commander of the Faithful, won't you fight?" He said, "No. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a covenant with me and I am patient with it."  

أحمد:٢٤٢٥٣حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسٌ عَنْ أَبِي سَهْلَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ادْعُوا لِي بَعضَ أَصْحَابِي قُلْتُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ؟ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ عُمَرُ؟ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ ابْنُ عَمِّكَ عَلِيٌّ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَتْ قُلْتُ عُثْمَانُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ قَالَ تَنَحَّيْ فَجَعَلَ يُسَارُّهُ وَلَوْنُ عُثْمَانَ يَتَغَيَّرُ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الدَّارِ وَحُصِرَ فِيهَا قُلْنَا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلَا تُقَاتِلُ؟ قَالَ لَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ عَهْدًا وَإِنِّي صَابِرٌ نَفْسِي عَلَيْهِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Pray for me, or bring me one of my companions." I said, "Abu Bakr?" He said, "No." I said, "Umar?" He said, "No." I said, "Your cousin Ali?" He said, "No." I said, "So, Uthman?" He said, "Yes." Uthman came and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Get up." Then the Prophet ﷺ went to Uthman and his color changed. When it was the Day of the Battle of Ad-Dar, we said, "Won't you fight?" He said, "No, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted me with a matter and I will be patient with it."  

الحاكم:٤٥٤٣حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَمْرِو عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ السَّمَّاكِ بِبَغْدَادَ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَهْلَةَ مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «ادْعُ لِي أَوْ لَيْتَ عِنْدِي رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي» قَالَتْ قُلْتُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ؟ قَالَ «لَا» قُلْتُ عُمَرُ؟ قَالَ «لَا» قُلْتُ ابْنُ عَمِّكَ عَلِيٌّ؟ قَالَ «لَا» قُلْتُ فَعُثْمَانُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قَالَتْ فَجَاءَ عُثْمَانُ فَقَالَ «قُومِي» قَالَ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُسِرُّ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ وَلَوْنُ عُثْمَانَ يَتَغَيَّرُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الدَّارِ قُلْنَا أَلَا تُقَاتِلُ؟ قَالَ لَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ أَمْرًا فَأَنَا صَابِرٌ نَفْسِي عَلَيْهِ
