I asked ʿAbdullah bin Abu ʿAufa "Did the Prophet ﷺ make a will?" He replied, "No," I asked him, "How is it then that the making of a will has been enjoined on people, (or that they are ordered to make a will)?" He replied, "The Prophet ﷺ bequeathed Allah's Book (i.e. Qur'an).  

سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى ؓ هَلْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوْصَى فَقَالَ لاَ فَقُلْتُ كَيْفَ كُتِبَ عَلَى النَّاسِ الْوَصِيَّةُ أَوْ أُمِرُوا بِالْوَصِيَّةِ قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ  

I asked ʿAbdullah bin Abu ʿAufa "Did the Prophet ﷺ make a will? ' He replied, "No." I further asked, "How comes it that the making of a will was enjoined on the people or that they were ordered to make it? " He said, "The Prophet ﷺ made a will concerning Allah's Book."  

سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى ؓ أَوْصَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لاَ فَقُلْتُ كَيْفَ كُتِبَ عَلَى النَّاسِ الْوَصِيَّةُ أَوْ أُمِرُوا بِهَا قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ  

I asked ʿAbdullah bin Abi ʿAufa, "Did the Prophet ﷺ make a will (to appoint his successor or bequeath wealth)?" He replied, "No." I said, "How is it prescribed then for the people to make wills, and they are ordered to do so while the Prophet ﷺ did not make any will?" He said, "He made a will wherein he recommended Allah's Book."  

سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى أَوْصَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لاَ فَقُلْتُ كَيْفَ كُتِبَ عَلَى النَّاسِ الْوَصِيَّةُ أُمِرُوا بِهَا وَلَمْ يُوصِ قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ  

I asked 'Abdullah b. Abu Aufa whether Messenger of Allah ﷺ had made any will (in regard to his property). He said: NO. I said: Then why has making of will been made necessary for the Muslims, or why were they commanded to make will? Thereupon he said: He made the will according to the Book of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic.  

سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى هَلْ أَوْصَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لاَ قُلْتُ فَلِمَ كُتِبَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ الْوَصِيَّةُ أَوْ فَلِمَ أُمِرُوا بِالْوَصِيَّةِ قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ ﷻ  

"I asked Ibn Abi Awfa: 'Did the Messenger of Allah leave a will?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'How come it is prescribed for the Muslims to make wills?' He said: 'He left instructions urging the Muslims to adhere to the Book of Allah.'"  

سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى أَوْصَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ قُلْتُ كَيْفَ كَتَبَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ الْوَصِيَّةَ قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ  

"I said to Ibn Abi Awfi: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leave a will?' He said: 'No' I said: 'How is the will written, and how was it enjoined upon the people?' He said: 'It was ordered in the Book of Allah, Most High."'  

قُلْتُ لاِبْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى أَوْصَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ قُلْتُ كَيْفَ كُتِبَتِ الْوَصِيَّةُ وَكَيْفَ أَمَرَ النَّاسَ قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ  

[Machine] I asked Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leave a will? He said no. So I asked, how did he command the believers to make a will if he himself did not leave one? He said, he commanded it in the Book of Allah.  

قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى أَوْصَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَكَيْفَ أَمَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِالْوَصِيَّةِ وَلَمْ يُوصِ؟ قَالَ أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللهِ ﷻ
