ذِكْرُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ أَنْ تُسْبِلَ الْمَرْأَةُ إِزَارَهَا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذِرَاعٍ

ibnhibban:5451 – ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Sinān > Aḥmad b. Abū Bakr > Mālik > Abū Bakr b. Nāfiʿ > Nāfiʿ > Ṣafiyyah b. Abū ʿUbayd > Um

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned lower garment, Umm Salamah, wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, asked him: And a woman, Messenger of Allah? He replied: She may hang down a span. Umm Salamah said: Still it (foot) will be uncovered. He said: Then a forearm's length, nor exceeding it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4117)

ابن حبّان:٥٤٥١ – أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ

أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ حِينَ ذُكِرَ الْإِزَارُ فَالْمَرْأَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تُرْخِي شِبْرًا» قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ إِذًا تَنْكَشِفُ عَنْهَا قَالَ «فَذِرَاعًا لَا تَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِ»

She mentioned women's hems to the Messenger of Allah [SAW], and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "Let it down a hand span." Umm Salamah said: "But that will uncover (her feet)." He said: "Let it down a forearm's length, but no more than that."

malik:48-14 –

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Bakr ibn Nafi from his father Nafi, the mawla of Ibn Umar that Safiyya bint Abi Ubayd informed him that Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said that when the lower garment of women was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah, he said, "She lets it down a handspan." Umm Salama said, "If it leaves her uncovered?" He said, "Then the length of a forearm and let her not increase it."

مالك:٤٨-١٤ – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ

[Machine] From Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , she said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The feet of women should not exceed the length of a forearm.' I asked, 'So, the lower part of their legs should be visible, O Messenger of Allah?' He replied, 'No, they should be covered up to the ankle.'"
