ذِكْرُ رِضَاءِ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا عَمَّنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَاهُ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ

ibnhibban:276 – al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > ʿAbd

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah while angering people, Allah will be pleased with him and people will be pleased with him. And whoever seeks the pleasure of people while angering Allah, Allah will be angry with him and people will be angry with him."  

ابن حبّان:٢٧٦ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْجُعْفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ الْعُمَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَى اللَّهِ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ ؓ وَأَرْضَى النَّاسَ عَنْهُ وَمَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَا النَّاسِ بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ سَخَطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَسْخَطَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسَ*»

Aishah's advice to Muawiyah

tirmidhi:2414 – Sūwayd b. Naṣr > ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak > ʿAbd al-Wahhāb b. al-Ward > a man from Ahl al-Madīnah > Katab Muʿāwiyah > ʿĀʾishah > Āktubī

"Mu'awiyah wrote a letter to 'Aishah, that: 'Write a letter to advise me , and do not overburden me.'" He said: "So 'Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her]wrote to Mu'awiyah: 'Peace be upon you. As for what follows: Indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: Whoever seeks Allah's pleasure by the people's wrath, Allah will suffice him from the people. And who ever seeks the people's pleasure by Allah's wrath, Allah will entrust him to the people. And Peace be upon you.'"  

الترمذي:٢٤١٤ – حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ الْوَرْدِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ

كَتَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ؓ أَنِ اكْتُبِي إِلَىَّ كِتَابًا تُوصِينِي فِيهِ وَلاَ تُكْثِرِي عَلَىَّ فَكَتَبَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَاءَ اللَّهِ بِسَخَطِ النَّاسِ كَفَاهُ اللَّهُ مُؤْنَةَ النَّاسِ وَمَنِ الْتَمَسَ رِضَاءَ النَّاسِ بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ وَكَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا كَتَبَتْ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِمَعْنَاهُ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever angers Allah in the satisfaction of people, Allah will be angry with him, and whoever angers him in his anger, Allah will be angry with him, and whoever satisfies Allah in the anger of people, Allah will be satisfied with him, and whoever satisfies him in his satisfaction, Allah will beautify him and beautify his words and actions in his sight."  

الطبراني:١١٦٩٦ – حَدَّثَنَا جبرونُ بْنُ عِيسَى الْمُقْرِئُ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْحَفْرِيُّ ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ حُصَيْنِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ أَسْخَطَ اللهَ فِي رِضَا النَّاسِ سَخِطَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وأَسْخَطَ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ أرضاهُ فِي سَخَطِهِ وَمَنْ أَرْضَى اللهَ فِي سَخَطِ النَّاسِ ؓ وَأَرْضَى عَنْهُ مَنْ أَسْخَطَهُ فِي رِضَاهُ حَتَّى يُزَيِّنَهُ وَيُزَيِّنَ قَوْلَهُ وَعَمَلَهُ فِي عَيْنِهِ»
