ذِكْرُ الْعِلَّةِ الَّتِي مِنْ أَجْلِهَا كَانَ يُصَلِّي الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ جَالِسًا

ibnhibban:2509Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Khuzaymah > ʿAlī b. Ḥujr al-Saʿdī > Jarīr b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿĀʾishah

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray while sitting after he reached old age. When there were 30 verses remaining from the surah, he would stand up and recite them, then he would perform the rukoo' (bowing).  

ابن حبّان:٢٥٠٩أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

«كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ بَعْدَمَا دَخَلَ فِي السِّنِّ وَكَانَ إِذَا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ السُّورَةِ ثَلَاثُونَ آيَةً قَامَ فَقَرَأَهَا ثُمَّ رَكَعَ»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to not recite anything from the night prayer while sitting until he reached an older age. And when there remained thirty or forty verses, he would stand and recite them, then he would prostrate.

"I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray sitting down until he grew old. Then he would pray sitting down and when there were thirty or forty verses left, he would stand up and recite them, then bow." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1649)
