52. Book of Vision and Dreams
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'When the time approaches, the dreams of the believer are not false; and the most truthful of them in speech are the most truthful of them in vision. Dreams are a portion of prophecy, forty-six parts out of sixty.' Abu Huraira said, 'I love confinement in sleep and dislike looseness in sleep, for confinement is essential for the religion.'"
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allahﷺ he said, "The truest of dreams are during the last part of the night."
“Dreams are of three types: Some are terrifying things from Satan, aimed at causing grief to the son of Adam; some are things that a person is concerned with when he is awake, so he sees them in his dreams; and some are a part of the forty-six parts of prophecy.” He said: “I said to him: ‘Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?’ He said: ‘Yes, I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3907)
“A good dream from a righteous man is one of the forty-six parts of prophecy.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3893)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘A righteous dream is one of the seventy parts of prophecy.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3897)
The Prophet ﷺ lifted the curtain (and saw that) the people were standing in rows(of prayers) behind Abu Bakr. He said: O people, there remained nothing that gives good tidings from prophethood except a true dream which a Muslim has himself or which another Muslim has for him. I have been prohibited to recite the Qur’an while bowing or prostration. As regards owing, exalt the Lord in it, and as to prostration, make supplication with exertion in it, that is worthy of being accepted. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 876)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allahﷺ uncovered his chest and his head was wrapped up in his illness in which he died. He said, "O Allah, have I conveyed? Three times. Verily, there is no longer a Prophet's true dream except that a righteous slave sees it or it is shown to him."
[Machine] "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Prophethood has ended, but glad tidings remain.'"
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the dawn prayer, he would ask: Did any of you have a dream last night? And he said: All that is left of Prophecy after me is a good vision. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5017)
[Machine] "He heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'The dream of a Muslim is one part of forty parts of Prophethood, and it is on a flying bird as long as it is not narrated. But when it is narrated, it becomes true.'"
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The (good) dreams of a faithful believer is a part of the forty-six parts of prophetism:' (Using translation from Bukhārī 6987)
He who saw me in dream in fact saw the truth (what is true). (Using translation from Muslim 2267a)
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Whoever sees me in a dream, has indeed seen the truth, for the Satan does not assume my appearance."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever sees me in a dream, it is as if they have seen me while awake, for certainly Satan cannot imitate my form."
[Machine] Anas ibn Malik, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to be pleased with dreams. Sometimes a person would see a dream and ask the Prophet ﷺ about it, even if he didn't know the person. If the dream was good and something positive was mentioned about the person, the Prophet ﷺ would be pleased with that person's dream. One day, a woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I saw in my dream that I was taken out of Madinah and entered paradise. I heard a sound and looked, and I saw so-and-so, and so-and-so, and so-and-so. Then twelve men came, and they were wearing green garments, and they had the marks of prostration on their foreheads. They were described as the soldiers who had gone on a military expedition before that. They were brought and their clothes were to their ankles. They were told to go to the river Baydhak, where they were immersed in it. Then they came out, and their faces were as bright as the full moon on a clear night. A sheet of gold was brought, on which there were fruits, and they ate from it as they wished. They turned it to any side they wanted and ate from the fruits they desired. I also ate with them.' Then Al-Bashir came from that expedition and said: 'So-and-so and so-and-so were afflicted with such and such.' Until they counted twelve men. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called the woman and said, 'Tell me about your dream.' So she told him the dream, and he said, 'Bring so-and-so and so-and-so, just as the man said.'"
[Machine] "Indeed, the Prophet (PBUH) said, 'Dreams are one part of seventy parts of Prophethood, and dreams are tied to the leg of a bird unless reported by the dreamer, and if reported it becomes true. So, do not report them except to a scholar, advisor, or loved one.'"
There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a desert Arab and said: I saw in a dream that I had been beheaded and I had been following it (the severed head). Allah's Apostle ﷺ reprimanded him saying: Do not inform about the vain sporting of devil with you during the night. (Using translation from Muslim 2268c)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever sees with his eyes in a dream what he did not see, he will not be held accountable on the Day of Judgment for fulfilling it. And whoever listens to the conversation of people while they dislike him, it will be poured into his ear on the Day of Judgment."
[Machine] I heard Abu Qatadah saying, "I used to see dreams that would make me sick until I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Good dreams are from Allah, so if any one of you sees a dream that he likes, he should narrate it to the one whom he loves. And if he sees a dream that he dislikes, he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil and should not mention it to anyone, for it will not harm him.'"
A good vision is from Allah and a bad dream (hulm) is from the satan; so if one of you sees anything (in a dream) which he dislikes, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and then it will never harm him. Abu Salama said: I used to see dreams weighing more heavily upon me than a mountain; but since I heard this hadith I don't care for it (its burden). (Using translation from Muslim 2261d)
When one of you sees a vision which he dislikes, he must spit on his left (three times), seek refuge in Allah from the devil three times, and turn from the side on which he was lying. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5022)
