ibnhibban:3Abū Yaʿlá > Abū Kurayb > Abū Usāmah > Burayd > Abū Burdah > Abū Mūsá

The similitude of mine and of that with which Allah sent me is that of a person who came to us and said: O people, I have seen an army with my eyes and I am a plain warner (and issue you warning) that you should immediately manage to find an escape. A group of people from amongst them paying heed (to his warning) fled to a place of protection and a group amongst them belied him and the morning overtook them in their houses and the army attacked them and killed them and they were routed. And that is the similitude of the one who obeyed me, followed with which I had been sent and the similitude of the other is of one who disobeyed and belied me and the Truth with which I have been sent. (Using translation from Muslim 2283)

ibnhibban:4ﷺ In

The similitude of that guidance and knowledge with which Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, has sent me is that of rain falling upon the earth. There is a good piece of land which receives the rainfall (eagerly) and as a result of it there is grown in it herbage and grass abundantly. Then there is a land hard and barren which retains water and the people derive benefit from it and they drink it and make the animals drink. Then there is another land which is barren. Neither water is retained in it, nor is the grass grown in it. And that is the similitude of the first one who develops the understanding of the religion of Allah and it becomes a source of benefit to him with which Allah sent me. (The second one is that) who acquires the knowledge of religion and imparts it to others. (Then the other type is) one who does not pay attention to (the revealed knowledge) and thus does not accept guidance of Allah with which I have been sent. (Using translation from Muslim 2282)

AbdurRahman ibn Amr as-Sulami and Hujr ibn Hujr said: We came to Irbad ibn Sariyah who was among those about whom the following verse was revealed: "Nor (is there blame) on those who come to thee to be provided with mounts, and when thou saidst: "I can find no mounts for you." We greeted him and said: We have come to see you to give healing and obtain benefit from you. Al-Irbad said: One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer, then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid. A man said: Messenger of Allah! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us? He then said: I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my sunnah and that of the rightly-guided caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error. [Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, drew a line for us and said, "This is the path of Allah." Then he drew other lines to the right and left of it and said, "These are paths, and there is a devil calling to each of them." Then he recited, "{And indeed, this is My path, which is straight} until the end of the verse."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew lines for us from his right and his left and said, "These are different paths, and along each path there is a devil calling to it." Then he recited the verse, "And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path." (Quran 6:153)

[Machine] A Bedouin asked the Prophet ﷺ a question, and they were more deserving of asking him than anyone else. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, when will the Hour (Day of Judgment) be?" He replied, "What have you prepared for it?" He said, "I have not prepared for it except that I love Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet ﷺ said, "You will be with those whom you love." Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I have never seen the Muslims rejoicing over anything after Islam more than they rejoiced over his statement."

[Machine] A woman named Khawla bint Hakeem, who was seeking a meeting with Aisha, entered the home of Uthman ibn Mazh'un while Aisha was in her plain attire. Aisha asked her, "What is your concern?" She replied, "My husband stays awake during the night and fasts during the day." Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered and Aisha mentioned this to him. The Prophet ﷺ then met Uthman ibn Mazh'un and said, "O Uthman, monasticism has not been prescribed for us. What do you say about a good example for yourself? By Allah, I fear Allah for your sake and safeguard you within His limits."

When Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose, and his anger increased so that he was like one giving a warning against the enemy and saying: "The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too." He would also say: "The Last Hour and I have been sent like these two." And he would join his forefinger and middle finger; and would further say: "The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error." He would further say:, I am more dear to a Muslim even than his self; and he who left behind property that is for his family; and he who dies under debt or leaves children (in helplessness), the responsibility (of paying his debt and bringing up his children) lies on me." (Using translation from Muslim 867a)

I will not marry women; someone among them said: I will not eat meat; and someone among them said: I will not lie down in bed. And he who turns away from my Sunnah, he has no relation with Me (Using translation from Muslim 1401)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided it between Zaid al-Khayl, Al-Aqra ibn Habis, Uyainah ibn Hisn, and Al-Qamah ibn Ulathah. Some of the Muhajireen and Ansar said: "We are more deserving of this." The news reached the Prophet ﷺ , and he became angry and said, "Do you not trust me when I am the most trustworthy among those in the heavens? I receive information about those in the heavens in the morning and in the evening." Then, a man with protruding eyes, a wide face, thick beard, shaved head, and loosened waistcloth came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, fear Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Am I not the most righteous among the people of the Earth to fear Allah?" He then turned away. Khalid, the Sword of Allah, approached the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Shall I strike his neck?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "No, perhaps he prays." He ﷺ said, "Many who pray say with their tongues what is not in their hearts." He ﷺ looked at him sternly and said, "He will come out from the offspring of this man, a people who recite the Book of Allah but it will not go beyond their throats.
