[Machine] We were in Ramadan during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Whoever wanted to fast, fasted, and whoever wanted to break the fast, broke it and made up for it by feeding a poor person until the verse was revealed: "So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it" (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185).  

الحاكم:١٥٣٨ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ قَالَ قُرِئَ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَكَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ قَالَ

كُنَّا فِي رَمَضَانَ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ شَاءَ صَامَ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَفْطَرَ وَافْتَدَى بِطَعَامِ مِسْكِينٍ حَتَّى نَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ {فَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ} [البقرة 185] الْآيَةَ  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ»
