You too can catch up to the good deeds earned by the rich and affluent

bukhari:843Muḥammad b. Abū Bakr > Muʿtamir > ʿUbaydullāh > Suma > Abū Ṣāliḥ > Abū Hurayrah

Some poor people came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "The wealthy people will get higher stations and will have permanent enjoyment ˹in Jannah˺ while they pray like us and fast as we do. They have more money by which they perform the Hajj, and Umrah, and they fight and struggle in Allah's Cause, and give charity."

The Prophet said, "Shall I not tell you a thing upon which if you acted you would catch up with those who have surpassed you? Nobody would overtake you and you would be better than the people amongst whom you live except those who would do the same: Say subḥān Allāh, al-ḥamdu lillāh and Allahu Akbar thirty three times each after every (compulsory) prayer."

We differed and some of us said that we should say, subḥān Allāh thirty three times and al-ḥamdu lillāh thirty three times and Allahu Akbar thirty four times. I went to the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Say, subḥān Allāh and al-ḥamdu lillāh and Allāhu Akbar, all together, thirty three times."

[Machine] The poor people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "The wealthy have gone with their abundant wealth to the higher levels and constant blessings. They pray as we pray, fast as we fast, and they have extra wealth with which they perform Hajj, Umrah, strive in the cause of Allah, and give in charity." He ﷺ said, "Shall I not inform you of something through which you will surpass those who preceded you and those who will come after you, and no one can exceed you except someone who does the same as you do?" They said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah." He ﷺ said, "You should say Tahmid (saying 'Al-hamdu lillah'), Tahlil (saying 'La ilaha illallah'), and Tasbih (saying 'Subhanallah') thirty-three times after every Salah (prayer)."

[Machine] The poor came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "The wealthy have taken all the higher ranks and everlasting blessings of wealth, they pray as we pray, and fast as we fast, but they have excess wealth with which they perform Hajj, 'Umrah, strive, and give in charity." He said, "Shall I not inform you of an affair by which you will catch up with those who surpassed you and surpassed those who come after you, and no one will be better than you except for the one who does the same as you do? You glorify and praise Allah and magnify Him after every prayer 33 times." [64] 'Abdullah bin Ruwaḥ contradicted this, narrating it from Abu Salih, from Abu Ad-Darda. Jarir also narrated it from him.
