A person had sexual relation with his wife in the month of Ramadan (while he was fasting), and he came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking his verdict concerning that action. The Prophet ﷺ said (to him), "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" The man said, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Can you fast for two successive months?" He said, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then feed sixty poor persons."  

البخاري:٦٨٢١ – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَجُلاً وَقَعَ بِامْرَأَتِهِ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَاسْتَفْتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَجِدُ رَقَبَةً قَالَ لاَ قَالَ هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ صِيَامَ شَهْرَيْنِ قَالَ لاَ قَالَ فَأَطْعِمْ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا

[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that he had committed adultery with his wife during Ramadan. The Messenger of Allah asked him, "Can you find a slave to free?" The man replied, "No." The Messenger of Allah asked, "Can you fast for two consecutive months?" The man replied, "No." The Messenger of Allah asked, "Can you feed sixty poor people?" The man replied, "I cannot find." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him dates and instructed him to give them in charity. The man then mentioned his need to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he instructed him to take the dates for himself.  

ابن حبّان:٣٥٢٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُصْعَبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ بَكْرِ بْنِ مُضَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ وَقَعَ بِامْرَأَتِهِ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَجِدُ رَقَبَةً؟ » قَالَ لَا قَالَ «هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ صِيَامَ شَهْرَيْنِ؟ » قَالَ لَا قَالَ «تُطْعِمُ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا؟ » قَالَ لَا أَجِدُ فَأَعْطَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَمْرًا وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَاجَتَهُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَهُ هُوَ

[Machine] A man had intercourse with his wife during Ramadan, so he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you have a slave to set free?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Are you able to fast for two consecutive months?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then feed sixty poor people." Abu 'Abdul-Rahman (narrator) said, "This is the correct opinion, and the hadith of Ashhab from Layth is a mistake. It should be 'Ashhab narrated the hadith from Malik.'

The man mentioned his need to the Prophet, who then ordered him to take the date for himself.

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ وَقَعَ بِامْرَأَتِهِ فِي رَمَضَانَ قَالَ «هَلْ تَجِدُ رَقَبَةً؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ صِيَامَ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَأَطْعِمْ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا» قَالَ لَا أَجِدُ فَأَعْطَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَمْرًا «فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ فَذَكَرَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَاجَتَهُ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَهُ هُوَ»

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , it is narrated that a man had relations with his wife during Ramadan. He then sought advice from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding this matter. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have a slave whom you can free?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ then asked him, "Are you able to fast for two consecutive months?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Feed sixty poor persons." Ibn Bukair added in his narration that they should be consecutive days.  

البيهقي:٨٠٤٣ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ وَابْنُ مِلْحَانَ قَالَا ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ثنا لَيْثٌ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أنبأ اللَّيْثُ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْفَضْلِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ثنا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

The Prophet said, "Then fast for two consecutive months." The man said, "I am not physically capable of fasting." The Prophet said, "Then feed sixty poor people."
