The Prophet ﷺ said, "Cover your utensils and tie your water skins, and close your doors and keep your children close to you at night, as the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away. When you go to bed, put out your lights, for the mischief-doer (i.e. the rat) may drag away the wick of the candle and burn the dwellers of the house." Ata said, "The devils." (instead of the Jinns).

خَمِّرُوا الآنِيَةَ وَأَوْكُوا الأَسْقِيَةَ وَأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ وَاكْفِتُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ عِنْدَ الْعِشَاءِ فَإِنَّ لِلْجِنِّ انْتِشَارًا وَخَطْفَةً وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ عِنْدَ الرُّقَادِ فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ رُبَّمَا اجْتَرَّتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَأَحْرَقَتْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ وَحَبِيبٌ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ فَإِنَّ لِلشَّيَاطِينِ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Cover the vessels, tie the water-skins, close the doors, extinguish the torches, for indeed the mischief-makers (vermin) may drag away the wick, causing a fire for the inhabitants of the house."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَمِّرُوا الآنِيَةَ وَأَوْكُوا الأَسْقِيَةَ وَأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ رُبَّمَا جَرَّتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَأَحْرَقَتْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Cover the vessels, extinguish the lamps, close the doors, and keep your children indoors when night falls, as indeed the rebellious jinn may cause the lamp wick to ignite and burn the house, and the jinn may roam around and kidnap children."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَمِّرُوا الْآنِيَةَ وَأَوْكُوا الْأَسْقِيَةَ وَأَجِيفُوا الْبَابَ وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ عِنْدَ الرُّقَادِ فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ رُبَّمَا اجْتَرَّتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَأَحْرَقَتِ الْبَيْتَ وَأَكْفِتُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ عِنْدَ الْمَسَاءِ فَإِنَّ لِلْجِنِّ انْتِشَارًا وَخَطْفَةً

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you should urinate in the hole, and when you sleep, extinguish the lamp, for the mouse takes the wick and burns the house down. Anchor the water skins and cover the drinking vessels, and close the doors at night." They said to Qatadah, "What about urinating in the hole?" He said, "It is said that it is the dwellings of the jinn."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَا يَبُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْجُحْرِ وَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوا السِّرَاجَ فَإِنَّ الْفَأْرَةَ تَأْخُذُ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَتَحْرِقُ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَأَوْكِئُوا الْأَسْقِيَةَ وَخَمِّرُوا الشَّرَابَ وَغَلِّقُوا الْأَبْوَابَ بِاللَّيْلِ قَالُوا لِقَتَادَةَ مَا يُكْرَهُ مِنَ الْبَوْلِ فِي الْجُحْرِ؟ قَالَ يُقَالُ إِنَّهَا مَسَاكِنُ الْجِنِّ

[AI] "That the Prophet ﷺ said: 'None of you should urinate in a hole, and when you sleep, extinguish the lamp, for the mouse may take the wick and burn the residents of the house. And lean the water vessels and cover the drinks, and close the doors.' Qatadah was asked: 'What is disliked about urinating in a hole?' He said: 'Because it is the dwelling of the jinn creatures.'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَا يَبُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْجُحْرِ وَإِذَا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئُوا السِّرَاجَ فَإِنَّ الْفَأْرَةَ تَأْخُذُ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَتُحْرِقَ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ وَأَوْكِئُوا الْأَسْقِيَةَ وَخَمِّرُوا الشَّرَابَ وَأَغْلِقُوا الْأَبْوَابَ فَقِيلَ لِقَتَادَةَ وَمَا يُكْرَهُ مِنَ الْبَوْلِ فِي الْجُحْرِ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا مَسَاكِنُ الْجِنِّ

"إذَا نِمْتُم فأطَفئُوا المصباحَ، فإنَّ الفأرةَ تأخذُ الفتيلةَ فتحرق أهْلَ البيتِ، وأغْلِقوا الأبْوابَ، وأوْكئُوا الأُسقيةً وَخمِّروا الشَّرابَ".

"خَمِّرُوا الآنِيَةَ، وأَوْكِئَوا الأَسْقِيَة، وأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ، واكْفِتُوا

صبْيَاتكُمْ عِنْدَ المَسَاءِ فإنَّ للجِنَّ انْتِشارًا وخَطفةً، وأَطفئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ عنْدَ الرُّقادِ، فإِنَّ الفُوَيْسقَةَ رُبَّمَا اجْتَرَّتِ الفِتيَلةَ فأحْرَقتْ أَهلَ البَيْتِ".

"لا يَبُولَنَّ أحدُكُمْ فِي الجُحْرِ، وَإذا نِمْتُمْ فَأَطْفِئوا السِّراجَ؛ فَإِنَّ الفَأرَةَ تَأْخُذُ الفَتِيلةَ فَتَحْرِقُ أَهلَ البَيتِ، وأوكِئوُا الأَسْقِية، وخَمِّروا الشَّراب، وغَلِّقوا الأبوابَ بِاللَّيْل".
