Rushing to do good deeds even when you're hungry

bukhari:4046ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad > Sufyān > ʿAmr > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

On the day of Uhud, a man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "What do you think: if I am killed, where will I be?" He said, "In Paradise." Then he threw away some dates in his hand and fought until he was killed.

البخاري:٤٠٤٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ، فَأَيْنَ أَنَا؟ قَالَ: «فِي الْجَنَّةِ». فَأَلْقَى تَمَرَاتٍ فِي يَدِهِ، ثُمَّ قَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ.

Messenger of Allah, where shall I be if I am killed? He replied: In Paradise. The man threw away the dates he had in his hand and fought until he was killed (i. e. he did not wait until he could finish the dates). In the version of the tradition narrated by Suwaid we have the words:" A man said to the Prophet ﷺ. on the day of Uhud......"
