That the Meccan people requested Messenger of Allah ﷺ to show them a miracle, and so he showed them the splitting of the moon.  

البخاري:٣٦٣٧ – حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَقَالَ لِي خَلِيفَةُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ

أَنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ سَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُرِيَهُمْ آيَةً فَأَرَاهُمُ انْشِقَاقَ الْقَمَرِ

The people of Mecca asked the Prophet ﷺ to show them a sign (miracle). So he showed them (the miracle) of the cleaving of the moon.  

البخاري:٤٨٦٧ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ قَالَ

سَأَلَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ أَنْ يُرِيَهُمْ آيَةً فَأَرَاهُمُ انْشِقَاقَ الْقَمَرِ  

bukhari:3868 – ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb > Bishr b. al-Mufaḍḍal > Saʿīd b. Abū ʿArūbah > Qatādah > Anas b. Mālik

The people of Mecca asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ to show them a miracle. So he showed them the moon split in two halves between which they saw the Hira' mountain.  

البخاري:٣٨٦٨ – حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ

أَنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ سَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُرِيَهُمْ آيَةً فَأَرَاهُمُ الْقَمَرَ شِقَّتَيْنِ حَتَّى رَأَوْا حِرَاءً بَيْنَهُمَا  

ahmad:13154 – Yūnus b. Muḥammad > Shaybān > Qatādah > Anas b. Mālik

أَنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ سَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُرِيَهُمْ آيَةً فَأَرَاهُمْ انْشِقَاقَ الْقَمَرِ مَرَّتَيْنِ

[Machine] The people of Makkah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon twice.
