bukhari:1246Abū Maʿmar > ʿAbd al-Wārith > Ayyūb > Ḥumayd b. Hilāl > Anas b. Mālik

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Zaid took over the flag and was martyred. Then it was taken by Jafar who was martyred as well. Then ʿAbdullah bin Rawaha took the flag but he too was martyred and at that time the eyes of Messenger of Allah ﷺ were full of tears. Then Khalid bin Al-Walid took the flag without being nominated as a chief (before hand) and was blessed with victory."  

البخاري:١٢٤٦حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلاَلٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَخَذَ الرَّايَةَ زَيْدٌ فَأُصِيبَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَهَا جَعْفَرٌ فَأُصِيبَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَهَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ فَأُصِيبَ وَإِنَّ عَيْنَىْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَتَذْرِفَانِ ثُمَّ أَخَذَهَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ مِنْ غَيْرِ إِمْرَةٍ فَفُتِحَ لَهُ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon and said, "Zaid received the flag and was martyred, then Jaʿfar took it and was martyred, then ʿAbdullah bin Rawaha took it and was martyred, and then Khalid bin Al-Walid took it without being appointed, and Allah gave him victory." The Prophet ﷺ added, "I am not pleased (or they will not be pleased) that they should remain (alive) with us," while his eyes were shedding tears.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gave a sermon and said, "Zaid took the flag and was martyred, then Jafar took it and was martyred, then Abdullah bin Rawaha took it and was martyred, and his eyes were shedding tears. Then Khalid took it without command and Allah granted him victory. And what pleases me is that they are with us, or he said what pleases them is that they are with us."

"أخذ الراية زيدٌ فأُصيبَ، ثم أخذَها جعفرٌ فأُصيبَ، ثم أخذها عبد الله بن رواحة فأُصيبَ ، ثمَّ أخذها خالدٌ عن غير إمْرَةٍ ففتحَ الله عليه، وما يسرنى أنَّهم عندنا - أو قال: - وما يسرُّهم أنَّهم عندنا".
