4. Wudūʾ (Minor Ablution)

4.35 Whosoever considers not to repeat ablution except if something is discharged or passed from exit (front or back private parts)

[Machine] And the saying of Allah Ta'ala: "Or someone from you has come from relieving oneself." Ata' said regarding the person who comes out after defecating or a discharge similar to that of lice, they should repeat the ablution. Jabir ibn Abdullah said that if a person laughs during prayer, they should repeat the prayer but not the ablution. Al-Hasan said that if someone takes from their hair or nails or removes their shoes, there is no need to repeat the ablution. Abu Huraira said there is no need for ablution except for impurity. It is mentioned about Jabir that when the Prophet (ﷺ) was in the Battle of Dhatur-Riqa', a man was hit by an arrow, causing blood to flow. He performed sujood while bleeding and continued his prayer. Al-Hasan said that Muslims continue to pray with their wounds. Tawus, Muhammad ibn Ali, Ata', and the people of Hijaz said there is no need for ablution when there is blood. Ibn Umar cut himself and blood came out, yet he did not perform ablution. Ibn Abi Awfa spat out blood and continued his prayer. Ibn Umar and al-Hasan said that someone who has a nosebleed only needs to wash the affected area.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A person is considered in prayer as long as he is waiting for the prayer in the mosque as long as he does not do Hadath." A non-Arab man asked, "O Abu Huraira! What is Hadath?" I replied, "It is the passing of wind (from the anus) (that is one of the types of Hadath).

I used to get emotional urethral discharges frequently and felt shy to ask Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. So I requested Al-Miqdad bin Al-Aswad to ask (the Prophet ﷺ ) about it. Al-Miqdad asked him and he replied, "One has to perform ablution (after it)."

I asked ʿUthman bin ʿAffan about a person who engaged in intercourse but did no discharge. ʿUthman replied, "He should perform ablution like the one for an ordinary prayer but he must wash his penis." ʿUthman added, "I heard it from Messenger of Allah ﷺ." I asked ʿAli Az-Zubair, Talha and Ubai bin Kaʿb about it and they, too, gave the same reply. (This order was canceled later on and taking a bath became necessary for such cases).

Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for a Ansari man who came with water dropping from his head. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perhaps we have forced you to hurry up, haven't we?" The Ansari replied, "Yes." Messenger of Allah ﷺ further said, "If you are forced to hurry up (during intercourse) or you do not discharge then ablution is due on you (This order was canceled later on, i.e. one has to take a bath).
