4. Wudūʾ (Minor Ablution)

4.77 Siwak (to clean the teeth with Siwak which is a tooth-brush in the form of a pencil from the roots of the Arak tree

٤۔٧٧ باب السِّوَاكِ

[Machine] And Ibn Abbas said to her when she was at the presence of the Prophet ﷺ , "Ask (your question)."

وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ بِتُّ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَاسْتَنَّ.

bukhari:244Abū al-Nuʿmān > Ḥammād b. Zayd > Ghaylān b. Jarīr > Abū Burdah from his father

My father said, "I came to the Prophet ﷺ and saw him carrying a Siwak in his hand and cleansing his teeth, saying, 'U' U'," as if he was retching while the Siwak was in his mouth."  

البخاري:٢٤٤حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ غَيْلاَنَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَوَجَدْتُهُ يَسْتَنُّ بِسِوَاكٍ بِيَدِهِ يَقُولُ أُعْ أُعْ وَالسِّوَاكُ فِي فِيهِ كَأَنَّهُ يَتَهَوَّعُ  

bukhari:245ʿUthmān > Jarīr > Manṣūr > Abū Wāʾil > Ḥudhayfah

Whenever the Prophet ﷺ got up at night, he used to clean his mouth with Siwak.  

البخاري:٢٤٥حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يَشُوصُ فَاهُ بِالسِّوَاكِ
