[Machine] We used to inform the Prophet (PBUH) whenever one of us passed away, and he would come and seek forgiveness for the deceased until the burial was done. Sometimes he would sit along with us until the burial, and other times he would leave before that. It was burdensome for him, so some people suggested that we should not inform the Prophet (PBUH) until after the burial, so that he wouldn't have to go through the hardship. We followed their suggestion and informed him after the burial, and he would come and pray for the deceased. Sometimes he would leave immediately, and other times he would stay until the burial was done. We continued to do this until today.

[Machine] We used to inform the Prophet, peace be upon him, when one of us passed away. The Prophet, peace be upon him, would then come and pray for the deceased. Sometimes, he and the people accompanying him would stay until the body was buried. This continued for some time and caused hardship to the Prophet, peace be upon him. So, some people said to each other, "If we do not inform the Prophet, peace be upon him, until the body is buried, there will be no hardship or delay." Therefore, we started informing him after the burial so that he would come and pray for the deceased.

[Machine] We used to inform the Prophet ﷺ whenever one of us passed away, and he would attend the deceased and seek forgiveness for him. He would stay with him until he was buried, and sometimes this process would take a long time for the Prophet ﷺ . When we feared that this might be burdensome for him, some of the people said to others, "If we don't inform the Prophet ﷺ about someone's death until he is already buried, then he wouldn't have to go through any difficulty or delay." So we started doing that and would inform him about the deceased after they were buried, and he would come and offer prayers for them. Sometimes he would come immediately, and sometimes he would delay until the deceased was buried. We were doing this at that time, and then we said, "If the Prophet ﷺ himself attended our funeral and prayed for us at our homes, it would be even better." So we did that, and this practice continues till today.

ibnhibban:3006al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > Aḥmad b. ʿAmr b. al-Sarḥ > Ibn Wahb > Abū Yaḥyá b. Sulaymān > Saʿīd b. ʿUbayd b. al-Sabbāq > Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī

[Machine] We used to be the ones who would inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a deceased person was brought before him. He would then come and seek forgiveness for the deceased until they were buried. Once the burial was complete, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and those with him would depart. Sometimes, the delay in the departure of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was prolonged. When we became concerned about the burden of waiting, some people said to each other, "By Allah, if we do not inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about someone's death until after the burial, it will not cause any hardship or inconvenience for him." They then proceeded to act upon this and began to inform him only after the burial had taken place. Thereafter, he would come, offer the prayer for the deceased, and seek forgiveness for them. Sometimes he would depart immediately afterwards, and sometimes he would stay until the deceased was buried." The narrator then added, "We continued in this manner for some time. Then we said, 'By Allah, if we do not inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and carry our deceased to him until he offers the funeral prayer at their graveside, it would be even more compassionate and easier for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' We then began to do this. And this practice has continued to this day."
